okay, first of all, this topic is going to have huge ol' spoilers for
every season of 24. so if you haven't seen 24 and have any interest of
seeing it in the future, get the hell out. I'm talking to you, Kleenex. though you're not going to listen to me. but you should. but it's awesome anyway, so you probably can't resist. why am I talking to you like this. uhh, anyway. there's two or three videos that I can't seem to find, and I don't care to learn video editing solely for a couple of 24 clips. if anyone else can find videos of these though, I will be appreciative! the rest are fairly popular, so youtube has me hooked up. aw yeah let's do this --- xyzzy "Created by Warren Robinett." |

#24: Michelle at the hotel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JS8X56Jngc8 "If you try to leave, I *will* shoot you." everything involving Michelle and the hotel is great, but this scene is definitely the best. Michelle goes into the hotel without any protective gear on and immediately takes charge of the situation. she's calm, rational and makes good, quick decisions. which is the exact opposite of what we've come to expect from women in 24. my favourite part about this scene isn't how she takes control. it isn't that she threatens the guy. it isn't even that she shoots the guy. it's the way that she doesn't freak out after she shoots a completely innocent guy. (granted, he's a jerk. but still.) most characters would be flipping out over having to shoot an innocent, but Michelle does what has to be done. she doesn't even hesitate. she keeps her poise and shows she's the only girl in the show's history that's comfortable with a gun in her hand. kudos, Michelle. --- xyzzy "hello." -neonreaper |

#23 - George Mason's departure (season 2) http://youtube.com/watch?v=Gcv7BR75R24 "I think it's time I stepped down." this is such an odd scene. I'm pretty sure it's the only silent clock in the middle of an episode, and the conversation between Mason and Tony is kind of cheesy. what makes me love this scene, though, is how you feel for Mason in the ten or so episodes beforehand. he's starting to look like a damn zombie, his hand looks like it's wrapped up in some nasty plastic crap and he's bleeding from his entire body. yet he still gives it everything he has in order to find the nuke. this scene is the point where Mason just can't keep going, and when he pauses for a second and looks around before he walks out, it's touching. you know he's done everything he possibly could, and it's time for him to rest. the writers even gave him some silence to commemorate his hard work under duress. of course, his best was still yet to come. --- xyzzy "hello." -neonreaper |

#22 - Lynn McGill's redemption (season 5) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYkOdYX3QNk there's no other way to say it: Lynn McGill is a dick. he's a by-the-book, Type-A personality with absolutely no people skills. despite the fact that he was able to save Jack's life by decrypting his message, he's portrayed as being more of an obstacle than an asset. soon enough, he starts screaming and flipping out at everyone until he's relieved of his duties. on top of that, his keycard was stolen and he didn't report it. on the day of a massive terrorist attack. how can you neglect to mention that?? dozens of important people are dead thanks to his negligence. at this point, the nerve gas is eating away at the seals on the doors and everyone inside will be dead soon if the fans aren't turned on. Lynn ends up being the closest one to the computer, so Jack asks him if he would be willing to sacrifice himself for the good of others. this scene is so amazing to watch because you know it can only end one way: McGill dying. I love trying to hold my breath while watching this - I do it every time naturally and there's no way I could ever make it half as long as McGill did. then again, my life isn't at risk, so whatever. I love this scene not because of McGill, but the random security guy. you have to feel for the guy who just got screwed because he ended up in a room with McGill. prior to this scene, he has a conversation with his family, and it's heartbreaking. he's scared as hell and his response after he takes a breath is great.. until he kinda rolls over and dies. McGill ends up dead, but at least he went out with a bang. that alone saves him from being one of the very worst characters in 24 history. --- xyzzy "hello." -neonreaper |

Every Mason moment was epic. I could easily make a Top 24 George Mason Moments. Seriously, everything that came out of his mouth was awesome. I realize that Chloe picked up the torch as the comic relief character, but she could never top Mason's sarcasm. --- ~Jacksonville Jaguars~ |

#22: "I'm gonna need a hacksaw." (season 2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMkKb55ojJI I'm not as big on the hacksaw line as others are. it's a good line, that's for sure, but I like others more. I also want to slap that beard off his face. that said, this is the first time we see Jack since Teri's death, and you can tell that it's changed him. Jack has gone from a somewhat moral man to a guy who will do absolutely anything necessary. "That's the problem with people like you, George. You want results, but you never want to get your hands dirty. I'd start rolling up your sleeves." and with that, we have Jack Bauer: the man who will behead children if necessary to find a weapon. Jack Bauer the family man is gone; Jack Bauer the anti-terrorist weapon has arrived. and there's no going back. --- MAC. IN. TOSH!!!!! wtf |

#21: Ryan Chappelle's execution (season 3) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bh4xP6ecFV0 Ryan Chappelle: Yes, you can! You were right back at CTU to put me under watch. I wasn't going out for a cigarette, I was trying to bolt. But I know this has to happen now. Jack Bauer: I can't take that chance. Ryan Chappelle: I'm giving you my word, Jack. I won't run, I swear. I-I-I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared, but I'm not gonna run. I couldn't live with myself, knowing that I was responsible for the deaths of all those people. You gotta believe me. like McGill, Chappelle is an antagonistic, by-the-book bastard who is a pain in the ass to CTU investigations for the better part of three seasons. he's rarely helpful and it's very difficult to feel any sympathy for him. after this scene, though, it's hard not to feel bad. this entire episode is weird. if my memory holds, Saunders hands down the order at the beginning of the episode and this scene is the end. Chapelle's personality completely changes, too. he goes from a jerk to one of the more sympathetic characters in the show's history. you really see him as being completely innocent. it's like they didn't know what to do for an hour and were like "hey, let's kill someone." Chappelle may have been a bastard, but that doesn't mean he deserved to die. I love Jack's reaction: he doesn't call him a good man. he doesn't throw false praise on him. he knows Chappelle's a soulless jerk and doesn't want to tell him otherwise. I have this weird reaction to this scene. it's like you don't want to believe Jack is going to shoot him, but at the same time you realize that there'll be no one in Tony's way back at CTU if he does. it's a convenient death, something that never happens in 24. the whole time, I expected someone to call it off or something. you just don't execute an innocent guy like that on national TV. but they did. --- MAC. IN. TOSH!!!!! wtf |

#20: Logan Revealed (season 5) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76ekimhd6Xs "I will handle this, sir I promise you. I will not let you down." "See that you don't. by the time season 5 rolls around, you're conditioned to expect anything. you've seen presidents shot, close friends turn on you, main characters killed. at this point, anything could happen. except Charles Logan, the ultimate coward, becoming complicit with a terrorist attack. Charles Logan's way of governing is to yell and scream vague directives without having any meaning behind them - "FIX THIS" or "YOU SAID YOU WOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS". he takes all the credit and blames others when things go wrong. he's pretty much the worst thing you could have as a president. in season 4, he was paralyzed with fear, unable to even make a simple decision. this guy is the end bad dude? the best part of this moment was the way your mind raced afterwards. "wait, what about Walt Cummings? was that a suicide? what about season 4? was he complicit in those attacks? what about David Palmer? did he authorize an attack on the guy who saved his ass in season 4? what about Keeler?" I spent a full week grappling with every possibility. this was one of the times where I was really glad to take a week off before the next episode - I needed an entire week to let this one sink in. and the more I thought about it, the more awesome it was. as far as twists go, this one was amazing. Logan went from an unlikable, pathetic president to the last person you want making decisions. I like the latter version of Logan a lot, lot more. --- MAC. IN. TOSH!!!!! wtf |

#19 - Jack finds Terri (season 1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzpJFJ34-Mc "I'm so sorry." I'm not that big on this scene. I don't like the flashback part at all.. it's like they didn't know what to have Jack say so they hit us with a montage of stuff from the first episode. I understand why they did it - there really isn't much you can say, but they wanted the gravity of the situation to hit home. still, I'd rather they could have come up with some kind of dialogue, or if they got Kim's reaction in there. that said, it's easily the most significant moment in 24's history and is the original silent clock. you can't ignore how huge this moment is, and how it changed the lives of Jack and Kim. that alone is enough to push it into my top 25. --- MAC.
