For some reason I've got an active post from last year before I left on it. And it's only at 380. OH WELL. --- "Well, you see... it's like this. the other episodes from Seasons 1-5. I really wish I could see all the
Discussion topics from the older seasons. *slight hint* --- Things I think are epic: Death Note, 24, Phoenix Wright, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The final Harry Potter Book. |

It was one of those incredibly depressing moments in Season 3. Season 3
was actually one of the darkest seasons, upon re-examination. --- Gandhi loved you, and look what happened to Gandhi. |
trannyscience | Posted 8/30/2007 9:45:48 PM | message detail | #475 |
yeah, the first half was for sure. the second half? not so much. I
thought season 5 and 6 were probably the darkest, I guess. actually,
they're all fairly dark. --- xyzzy now playing: PW3, Jeanne d'Arc |
SenpaiDessus | Posted 8/31/2007 12:42:33 AM | message detail | #476 |
Hmm, I'd say the entire part from the hotel sequence to Tony choosing
Michelle over his country was the darkest part of Season 3. Total
desperation; the only lead comes out of CTU executing someone
completely at a terrorist's whim, and the only way they can break out
of it all is by threatening the worst imaginable death of an innocent
young girl. Season 5 was dark based on the death toll it took on the main cast, but otherwise, it didn't have the same oppression. Season 6 was pretty dark during its beginning (the first bit plus the bit with Jack's family) and during the two scenes with Heller. The Gredenko-Fayed takedown arc was actually pretty light, comparatively speaking. But yeah, when 'comparative' refers to 24, light means stuff like Season 2, where a happy ending involves the President, newly re-instated, getting assassinated at the end of the season. >> --- Gandhi loved you, and look what happened to Gandhi. |
transience | Posted 8/31/2007 12:46:08 AM | message detail | #477 |
I thought the darkest part of season 3 was the prison break, Jack's
arrival, his willingness to shoot Chase, and then Chase's subsequent
torture. the hotel wasn't really all that bad to me comparatively. --- "There's "Awesome," then a few more notches up there is "Amazing," go a few more up and there's "Impeccable." Finally, after climbing a mountain of distance there's "Yuri Hyuga." - HM |
SenpaiDessus | Posted 8/31/2007 1:16:34 AM | message detail | #478 |
Wasn't so much what happened at the hotel as what didn't
happen at the hotel - namely, any real progress at all. CTU was utterly
helpless, and Jack looked like an idiot just walking around trying to
figure out what the hell he could do. Which was nothing. And I think that 24 is at its darkest when Jack is lost. --- Gandhi loved you, and look what happened to Gandhi. |
KleenexTissue50 | Posted 8/31/2007 8:52:30 AM | message detail | #479 |
first half of season 3 was the darkest because it was nighttime lolz --- Kleenex - Now with an invigorating blast of citrus cherry flavor. |

For women and children it will, sometimes. The only exception of which I can think is Evelyn in Season 5. --- Gandhi loved you, and look what happened to Gandhi. |
transience | Posted 9/2/2007 3:08:34 AM | message detail | #488 |
Janet York :) --- "There's "Awesome," then a few more notches up there is "Amazing," go a few more up and there's "Impeccable." Finally, after climbing a mountain of distance there's "Yuri Hyuga." - HM |
SenpaiDessus | Posted 9/2/2007 10:47:23 AM | message detail | #489 |
Janet York wasn't an expendable character per se; she was a pretty major plot point --- Gandhi loved you, and look what happened to Gandhi. |
transience | Posted 9/2/2007 10:48:48 AM | message detail | #490 |
Evelyn's fairly major too. she's not in the plot as long, but she certainly plays a role, arguably moreso than Janet York. --- "where the heck does diablo get his votes from on weekends? He should be losing because christians are fresh from the church and voting against evil" -voltch |
SenpaiDessus | Posted 9/2/2007 10:54:20 AM | message detail | #491 |
Evelyn plays a role, yeah, but her death is comparatively meaningless,
while Janet's death revealed Alan York to be Kevin Carrol. Also, I
think FOX didn't care so much about censoring that because Janet in
general was a complete idiot who caused this entire mess to begin with,
while Evelyn was comparatively innocent. --- Gandhi loved you, and look what happened to Gandhi. |
transience | Posted 9/2/2007 10:57:16 AM | message detail | #492 |
I thought Janet's death was more of a "you wanna know what kind of show
this is? THE GOOD GUYS ARE NOT SAFE, THEY ARE GOING TO DIE" kind of
thing. her death is certainly more important given her struggle and
escape, but I didn't think she was "a complete idiot". you had to feel
at least kind of sorry for her. she was just a dumb college girl who
wanted to party, not somebody that deserved to die. --- "where the heck does diablo get his votes from on weekends? He should be losing because christians are fresh from the church and voting against evil" -voltch |
SenpaiDessus | Posted 9/2/2007 11:09:56 AM | message detail | #493 |
Oh without doubt she didn't 'deserve to die.' I just have trouble
seeing her as an exception to the women/children rule, I guess.
Possibly because she was the first and, like you said, her death was in
some ways a message to the viewer. --- Gandhi loved you, and look what happened to Gandhi. |
goldensage830 | Posted 9/3/2007 7:08:41 PM | message detail | #494 |
...Maybe one of the reasons I loved the first three seasons so much was
because Nina was my favorite character after Jack.....that's gotta be a
reason. ...And also....TO 500! --- "-SuPer-Admin Restricted Desktop Access password-protected? What!? This is madness! - No, Maya, that is SPARDA." Phoenix Wright FTW |
