hated hated hated hated logan after S4, but he was so well portrayed, even then. you gotta love the way he tries to be all buddy-buddy with david palmer after the nukes are shot down, and palmer just ****ing cold-shoulders him.

logan is the weakest president the show has ever known, and while that affected like the first 1/3 of S5 negatively, after that, i started really getting to like watching the dude snivel. how many shows have the balls to create a ****ing president of the united states who can't even manage his own shoelaces, much less a government? he's not an effectual villain, but he's goddamn effective because, like dana walsh, we already hated him before he had a heel-turn, so we could fully hate him after it.

i think you've got double standards going on about the S5 finale, too, but i won't get into those because i got a list to make and stuff.

Henderson over Logan is craziness.

But I love the Wayne love. He gets unwarranted hate. His scene with David in s3 talking about lying to the police was brilliant.

Oh Grow up!
Who do you think you're talking to!?
To an ex-president!! if you don't do the only thing that makes sense here!

Also, hoping for 5. Henderson, 4. Bill, 3. Tony, 2. Palmer, 1. Jack, at this point.

Jack HAS to be one, although Palmer and Tony could be switched, it's close. For me, Henderson and Bill aren't on the same page as Tony and Palmer, and no one is on the same page as Jack.

My top 5 would definitely be 1) Jack, 2) Palmer, 3) Logan, 4) Tony, 5) Mason.

Mason was written nearly perfectly. It's not often when you can get the audience to love and sympathize with a complete dick.

I get Henderson because that comes down to who you prefer for season 5 Villainy, and I understand Tony since he and Logan just about tie for my #2 spot....but David and Bill? Come on.

I don't think Logan was ever good. he was just less open about it in season 6. others think he was going for redemption and got stabbed for it, so he gave up on it. I prefer the former explanation.

Fistpump reigns supreme as best S8 Charles Logan moment.

Also, there was a very subtle moment in the final box in the episode where Renee dies where Logan has his hand crinkled and looks like he's struggling to chew, it's so weird but awesome. It was the perfect I'm Charles Logan and I'm plotting something incredible weaselly moment.

I love the THAT'S JACK BAUER! part, but not for the words; it's for the fact that, after what's he's been through with Jack, he knows full well to panic. For all those baddies who act like "oh, Jack Bauer can't stop my plans", here's a guy who very well knows what Jack can do to him.

I was anticipating Logan's appearance in season 8 since I heard he was in it, and he didn't disappoint. He's definitely my favourite 24 villain.

Yeah, exactly....HTH is he below David Palmer?
The Beginning | Posted 6/4/2010 4:16:47 PM | message detail | filter | #081
Palmer is the complete opposite of Logan (until who knows what they did to him S3) as beautifully portrayed in their scenes in s4. Both are brilliant depictions, just depends on who you prefer. The "you failed me David, you failed your country" line is one of the best of season 4. The two were great together, even furthered by the fact that Logan ****ing had him assassinated. Even when Palmer was no longer there, the juxtaposition of his memorial service and Logan being taken away was the climax of S5. The two complement each other perfectly.

5. Christopher Henderson
Season(s): 5
Bio: http://24.wikia.com/wiki/Christopher_Henderson

"That's right, Jack, start with the knee, just like I taught you; the sooner you do it, the sooner you see I don't know what you're talking about!"

The best villain of the best season; Christopher Henderson is an evil Jack Bauer. He has every bit of the resourcefulness and intelligence that Jack does, and he trained Jack as well so he knows what Jack knows. Christopher is a great liar, is unbreakable and will do whatever it takes to reach his goal. You can say this about other villains, but with Christopher Henderson it's really true. He nearly dies from an interrogation and still finds the strength to "kill" Tony Almeida. His wife gets shot in front of him and Christopher will not tell Jack what he wants to know - not because he doesn't want to, but because he knows that he can't. You could rip off every body part and Christopher's resolve would not break. That's just who he is.

The main thing that makes Henderson great is his relationship with Jack. He has a personal history with him that turns into a rivalry of sorts - whatever Jack can do, Christopher will do better. When Jack goes to see Henderson, Henderson gets the jump on him, convinces Jack he's innocent (it isn't easy to lie to Jack, but Henderson does it easily), listens to what information he has and locks Jack in a room without him even realizing it. Henderson 1, Jack 0.

Later, Jack shows up at Henderson's house and interrogates Christopher and his wife. When Christopher doesn't talk, Jack gives one of his best lines -- "I SHOT HER ABOVE THE KNEECAP! SHE CAN STILL WALK. YOU MAKE ME SHOOT HER AGAIN, SHE'LL BE IN A WHEELCHAIR FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE." Henderson 1, Jack 1.

While CTU is interrogating Henderson, Henderson's vitals start to crash. Tony decides he can't handle Michelle's killer being allowed to live and tries to kill him. Henderson stabs him with a syringe and runs out of CTU. Henderson 2, Jack 1.

After learning about the recording from Evelyn Martin and Wayne Palmer, Jack successfully rescues Evelyn's child and secures the recording, killing some of Henderson's men in the pocess. Henderson 2, Jack 2.

Henderson tracks Jack and Audrey to the airport and takes Audrey hostage. Henderson then cuts Audrey's artery and has her walk towards Jack. Jack agrees to give up the recording to save Audrey. Henderson calls Logan and tells him he has the recording and that he can turn Heller away. Henderson then tracks Heller's car via helicopter, which then causes Heller to drive straight into a lake. Henderson 3, Jack 2. (you can argue this should count for two points)

Jack catches up to Henderson, rams him with a car and secures the recording. Henderson 3, Jack 3.

For the final act, Jack and Henderson work together to stop Bierko from taking over a submarine. Afterwards, it's time for the final showdown, wild west style.

"Hold it, Jack!"

Henderson tries to shoot Jack only to find out that the gun isn't loaded - Jack switched them at some point. Jack doesn't even blink.

"Good for you, Jack."
"You are responsible for the deaths of David Palmer, Tony Almeida and Michelle Dessler. They were friends of mine."
"That's the way it works."

Jack 4, Henderson 3. Even to the last minute, Henderson didn't flinch. Henderson appreciates that he was fairly beaten by Jack and seems almost proud of him.

I love the rivalry that these two have. It's great to watch, and Henderson being so damn unbreakable is also awesome to watch. No other villain except maybe Marwan took so much abuse and still got up for more. Season 5 being so awesome plotwise helps, too. Henderson is the perfect villain to oppose a guy like Jack. He might have even been better than Jack, too -- too bad Jack is the star of a TV show and Henderson isn't.

4. Tony Almeida
Season(s): 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7
Bio: http://24.wikia.com/wiki/Tony_Almeida

"Well, it's like this: Either fire me, or get out of my chair."

Tony is the 'deepest' character on the show, which is to say that his personality has fluctuated more than anybody else in the show's history. He starts out season 1 as a douche who has a grudge against Jack and is only worried about following protocol. By the end of season 1, he's Jack's tightest ally besides Nina. (whoops) In season 2, he meets Michelle, assumes a position of responsibility from George Mason and gets punched so hard by Jack that he twists his ankle. In season 3 he's in charge of CTU, gets shot in the neck, has a tough day with Michelle thanks to some deception over the sting operation and trust issues, commits treason to ensure Michelle's safety and ends up in jail. In season 4 he's a bum that drinks too much, ends up running CTU for a few hours and runs away with Michelle. In season 5, Michelle dies and he turns into a wreck until he's 'killed' by Henderson. In season 7 he straddles the line between hero and terrorist -- the ultimate "grey area" character. No other character has gone through so much over their 24 career. Jack has had a hell of a lot more stuff happen to him, but he still has the same core values and principles. Chloe has gone from being a social disaster to having decent people skills. But no one has been to hell and back like Tony.

My favourite version of Tony by far is his season 4 incarnation: out of work with nothing to lose, Tony consistently makes great decisions and has some great lines. My favourite Tony-related moment is in season 4 too, when he comes to rescue Jack and Audrey. It really isn't anything special, but seeing Tony save the day after being arrested for treason makes my heart jump every time. I'm not a huge fan of season 3 Tony -- he's never bad, but he's great in seasons 2 and 4 so 3 stands out. Plus, Michelle outshines him so much at the hotel that Tony kind of looks bad. Season 5 Tony is, of course, a disaster, but at least his angst makes sense.

I'm still coming to grips with how I feel about season 7 Tony. He is by far the star of the season, a fascinating character who toes the line between good and bad. This is the only time that Tony legitimately steps out of Jack's shadow and gets to be in a starring role. Season 7 is the Tony season. There's no doubt about it. And yet I'm conflicted: Tony is so radically different from day 1-4 that I don't even know if he's the same person. He looks totally different, he acts different, he's much darker -- it's an interesting character for sure but it's kind of sad to see what he's become. It doesn't feel authentic, especially coming off the insanely written day 6 where the writers just threw anything at the wall and hoped that it would stick.

Ultimately, my feelings on Tony come down to what season I'm watching. If I'm watching season 4, he could be as high as #1; if I'm watching season 3 (which I am now), I don't like him as much. It's tough to nail down an opinion on him since he fluctuates so much between years. He doesn't even have a defined personality trait besides his classic "yep" or his close relationship with Jack. It's hard to believe that the guy talking with a crappy accent and being a dick to Jack in season 1 is the same GIVE ME BACK MY SON guy from season 7. They're so far apart personality-wise.

Tony's damn cool though. It would be tough to be a 24 fan and dislike Tony Almeida. I always feel bad for him because he's been through so much and, unlike Jack, never gets to see it through to the end successfully. Tony is kind of a tragic character -- a fantastically written one, but tragic nonetheless.
