There are 6 soul gems in the game that allow you to upgrade your souls to the max but they can't be obtained until you get a certian Plot Fusion

Aslo, search every nook and cranny for the 16 Ring Soul spirits. Good/Funny story AND you get a Hit area expansion

-- Made it through the mines without much trouble. I noticed one area there seemed to be a guy standing on a level below me. I didn't ever manage to find a way to him -- if there is a way to him -- but it was pretty strange. This place wasn't too bad, either. Tranny was dead on with every other post-subway not being anything really difficult.

Yes, you can get to him and you will want to if you want to complete a sidie to get some good equipment.

random stuff

- if you haven't figured it out yet, hit the X button while moving around in towns and dungeons. you'll find all kinds of things scattered around. this goes double on anything that looks out of place that could be one of Joachim's weapons - he gets those for free, so you never need to buy him one.

- did you fight Gama in Southampton? if you do, make sure you have a Leonardo's Bear equipped. that prevents Grand Slam from sending you to the moon.

- have you checked out those "Mr." cards in your inventory? :)

Just made it to the Neam Ruins. I've put in about 7 hours so far.

-- I forgot to mention this before, but I ran into THE GREAT GAMA !! in that previous town. The most distubring sounding/looking/everything ever. And he goes around preaching the greatness of wrestling...or somesuch. I tried my luck with him in the ring -- THIS WAS NO MAN FESTIVAL, I SAY -- and got whipped. Didn't try it again.

-- One of the things I'm really loving about this game is how much fun it is. Anyone who says "lol rpgs are boring cuz of turn-based battles" can go rot. I haven't gotten too far, but this may just be the most entertaining battle system I've found in an RPG. I love the whole Judgement Ring system, and being able to make it grow to get more hits per turn over time. I also like how nice the random encounter rate is. The battles aren't too frequent (you can make plenty of progress in between battles), but they're not too infrequent as to make you long for some battles. A really, really good balance.

-- The scene were the old lady tells Karin that she can either find the flower or dress up in a see-through dress and dance was like "aww yeah," but then she's all like "lol no i cant do that" and Yuri gets the right idea and looks at her, imagining what that would look like. I love the humor this game throws in every now and then.

-- The puzzles and dungeons in this game are second to none in design. Sure, they may not be particularly difficult -- although some of them can make you think a little -- I love how well implemented they are. Some examples, the Blood Type puzzles where you have to find out who matches the AB blood type and the one where you have to take the Zodiac tiles and figure out the order with some hints from a poem. I thought they were really enjoyable, and not so stupid that I needed to go FAQ it. An example of a really cool "dungeon" design would be the HQ. Hitting switches, opening walls, reading books to get hints about the clock, etc. It's fantastic, I think.

-- Despite all that clamor about how I should have played SH1 first, I think this game is doing a good job, so far, of not leaving me like "What the hell?!" when it clearly references the last game. If you played it, it's probably easier to understand and know exactly what they're talking about, but for those that didn't, they still do a good job of at least briefly going back over what they're talking about. I'm thinking about the Manuscript part here.

-- The parts where Yuri recaps what happened in the last game with amazing artwork is made of win.

-- I loved the scene where Yuri ends up tricking Lenny into telling him where Bacon is. I saw that coming a mile away. Right when he was like "You don't know, do you?" You just knew that Lenny was going to want to look like he was "in" with the plan, so he had to spill it to make himself look good. Funny stuff.

-- Still no hard boss battles so far. I had a few more, but nothing really worth noting.

-- I'm really liking the cast of this game. Yuri is far and away the best thing about it, but it's a nice cast with some good interaction -- when there is interaction. Yuri's personality, forgetting any sort of feats or going in-depth with his character, is probably my favorite part of him, which is nice because I haven't played SH1, so I'm missing out on his whole deal with Alice, which is unfortunate, but that's why I plan to play it after this. Smart, witty, and very cool. Yuri's the man. (Yuri > > Karin > Gepetto > Joachim > Blanca > Lucia)

-- I realize I'm pretty much sucking Yuri's cock this update; bear with it for now.
ZFS | Posted 4/30/2007 8:15:12 PM | message detail | #109
-- Right now. My party setup is Yuri, Karin, Joachim, and Lucia. I don't know why, but Lucia's fan hits for some pretty crazy damage (50-ish). She's only got one hit with it, though. Yuri has 5 hits with his JR, Karin has three, and Joachim has three. I've gotten Yuri's Orexis fusion up to Level 7. My whole party level is 14.

-- OMG THE RING SOUL IS MARRIED WUT WUT WUT!

Yeah. I've found a bunch of random stuff by doing that -- lottery tickets, crests, items, etc.

- did you fight Gama in Southampton? if you do, make sure you have a Leonardo's Bear equipped. that prevents Grand Slam from sending you to the moon.

Yeah. But I ended up getting hit to the moon. I need to go back and fight him again sometime with Leonardo's Bear equipped on him, I suppose!

- have you checked out those "Mr." cards in your inventory? :)

I have. I got curious as to what these "Stud Cards" were. Curiosity kills the cat.

Your damage is higher if you only have one attack IIRC. (hehe Anastasia doing 70+ with two hits)

WHY DO YOU HAVE LUCIA WHY HM.

- it does so much damage because it's only one hit. the more hits you have the more damage you do, but the amount of damage per hit goes down. I could never use Lucia because she's so luck-based and the game just isn't difficult enough to warrant using her special skills, but I've heard she's a good mage if you give her the right crests.

- SH1 stuff comes later, right now there's a bit you're missing but nothing huge. it's mostly just empathizing with Yuri about Alice that you're missing right now, and Kato I guess.

- Lenny is entertaining

- personal opinion: SH2 has some good dungeons but some really mediocre ones as well, with a couple being flat-out bad ('sup, underground subway, and I don't like the Ronda Mines at all either). there's one on disc 2 that's tedious and annoying as well; I have a map when you get there if you want it, and you'll know when you get there, believe me.

I was just testing her out to see if she was pretty good. The first time I used one of her, uh, Tarot Cards, she ended up reducing my entire party's max HP by 50%. Fun times, Lucia. I'll probably end up putting Gepetto back in when I start again.

And yeah, I guess that does make sense about the less is more damage. I've got Yuri doing ~110 damage with five perfect strikes, which is made even easier than usual thanks to reducing the speed by 50%.

yeah, coral items are nice. I always have mine on Karin because I've never adjusted to her ring without it. 50% is too slow for me though, I only use them when the annoying trials come up. (you'll see)

Joachim's is the only one I can't seem to get down all the time. I hit perfect with him more often than not, but his can annoying from time to time. Karin's was pretty easy to time perfectly for me at normal speed -- she's got Yuri's Coral item that reduced speed by 25% right now.

Oh pffft, Anastasia is a bad loli from what I know of loli stuff majiggles.

I found the scene where SH:C begins to go down hill (Well, no, I really like the stuff with Alice after it, but besides that)

Nicholai really should of been main villain, or, as originally planned, protagonist.

SH3's NG+ is good -- no, great. all the great abilities take a ton of MP, which you just don't have. SH1's is also good because of the minimum SP needed to fuse. SH2's is the only one I don't like.

Hey, guys, guess how much Shadow Hearts I've played? Seven hours. Now here's where it gets tricky. What you guys are talking about, you know, the whole villain of the game and things about Shadow Hearts 1. How much time do you need to put in to get to that? Because, and this may just be me talking crazy, if it's more than seven hours, I think what's going down in here is some spoilers. Guess who doesn't want to see spoilers? I won't answer this one.
