It's unfortunate the mainstream didn't catch on with it, but
GameFAQs... Board 8? This sucker needs to become the next Tales of
Symphonia around here or something. Dont say such blasphemies. Covenant is far superior to ToS in every way that my eyes bleed a little when I read this. Yes Yuri does more... tons more. There are two endings to the game so you better pick the right one. Yes, the first dugeon on disk 2 isn't fun. You better put on your best "Draft" (as in NBA or NFL) hat. I am saddened to see you lack of conviction for Lucia. Her oils are the best buffers in the game. Statistically she has the strongest Mag Def and third strongest Magic. Her STR is stronger than Ana and Gepetto. And she is hot. This topic is made of win. I am so glad someone new is enjoying this. ^_^ KB |

Man, am I the only one that thinks Nicholai should have stayed as the
protaggonist in this game? Oh, and HM, Nicholai realeasing the Malice
isn't really mention for the rest of the game, but its one of the main

Covenant is significantly better than Tales of Symphonia, but I was saying that SH2 needs to become popular like ToS is here. I am saddened to see you lack of conviction for Lucia. Eh, after I beat the game, I'll probably end up geeking out over all of the stats for the game. While I don't doubt any of it, Shadow Hearts just really isn't the sort of game where you need a party of the best -- statistically -- characters. -- At first, I wasn't too keen on the beginning of Disc 2. That might
have been because I ran around for minutes trying to figure out where
to go after I ran into Kurando, who is actually pretty cool. Little did
I realize that all I had to was run behind the giant piece of wood near
the save point to advance the story. Woe is me. -- Blanca being called "Snowball" was hilarious. He can't communicate with people, but the entire time he's like "Snowball?! My name is not Snowball!" He got pretty attached to that little group, too.' -- Battleship Mikasa was one of the most convoluted dungeons in this entire game. Even with the guide, I thought it was ridiculous. I mean, I didn't have trouble with it, but the entire time I'm thinking, "If I had to do this without a guide... no... hate." Right before this, I got everyone in my party updated equipment. I'm really glad I did that considering you had to split into two groups. Mercy. -- What in the holiest of ****s is with that oracle character? Hot damn, that thing is ugly as sin, complete with a grating voice actor. Yeesh. -- The, uh, "apes" are pretty interesting. I really like Ouka -- like her moves in battle and such -- but the other two are crazy. I wasn't too happy about having to control her at first, but the sequence it takes you through with shooting targets was pretty fun. And I admit, when Kato, who is just giving me all sorts of bad vibes, said "Don't shoot my target"... Yeah, I shot his target. -- I have no idea what in the world is with the "apes." What is that? -- Finding out that Kurando has a "Demon Morph" pretty much confirmed that he was going to be the fourth member for my group. That's like Yuri-lite, which is always a good thing. -- The Otherworld sequence was strange -- and kind of annoying because I messed up twice on it. And what the hell is with the shop brothers? They just appear everywhere, although I love their explanations for how they managed to get there. Crazy. I also got the "Gold Card" there, so I get 50% discount and a 25% markup, along with not having any penalty for screwing up or something. -- The boss fight against the Oracle, or whatever his name is, was pretty easy. Arc Rage + Fusion Amon + Demon Morph = instant win. Afterward, I got Tsuikoymi (or however it's spelt) up to level 8. Yeah, I've been conserving Souls for a while now (I had 600 before spending it on him.) -- I really liked the scenes at the old man's daughter's grave. That would have probably been even better had I played SH1, but what can you do? The flashback sequence and getting to see Yuri's dad talking to him was pretty cool, too. Looks pretty much like a taller, thinner version of Yuri. -- Oh, and the whole scene with Nicolai being tortured by Hojo, who's trying to extract Astaroth out of him, was pretty crazy. Little did I know that's why Kato ended up interferring. It doesn't seem like those two are working together at all. And Kato smacking Ouka for saving Hien and Raiden makes him a bastard. |

- I have no idea what in the world is with the "apes." What is that? They were all monkeys before Kato enhanced them into what they are now. And as far as Kurando goes, he's cool, but I always saw him as a hindrance to my party because of his lack of crest usage. He's exactly like Yuri, too, who I was slowly getting bored of in battle (I admit), so I eventually switched Kurando back out for Lucia. <3 Lucia for her buffers and tarot cards. --- nyoro~n |

Hey hey, I love Yuri as much as you do, but you gotta admit, having TWO
Yuris in battle can get tedious. Especially if the second Yuri is

Eh, I don't think I'd call it tedious. What I particularly like about
Yuri is that he almost always OHKOs basic enemies, and then he dishes
out more damage than anyone else when it comes to boss battles. So it's
basically "quickly buff yuri buff yuri." Good fun, I think. Lucia... eh... not really a fan. --- GODSLAYER AWW YEAH |

Kurando's fine, I don't feel like he's outdone by Yuri or anything.
sure he duplicates Yuri in the sense that he can fuse, but if that's
the case then every other character in the party is wasted space
because they can all use crests. if anything, it's Kurando's weird first hit on his ring that messes with me. --- xyzzy |

I screwed up so much on that when I first got him. I eventually just
had to give him a Coral Lariat (25% reduction on speed). Some
character's have some really awkward ring placements. I also noticed
that some of them can't seem to go beyond a certain number of attacks
per turn. Yuri seems to be able to go the highest at 5. --- GODSLAYER AWW YEAH |

You can only carry a max of 99 Hit Area and Strike Area expands at a
time, even when they're equipped, so unless you load them all onto one
or two characters, no. I had the Judgement Ring of Red DOOM on Karin my last playthrough. >_> --- nyoro~n |

| Right now, I'm in -- GASP -- Purgatory. I was
going to run through it, but then I saw all sorts of stars on the
wooden frames and just knew this was going to take a while, so I quit
for a bit. -- I fought The Great Gama again in Japan -- this time with Leonardo's Bear equipped to not get Grand Slam'd -- and got another move for Joachim. He was surprisingly easy to beat, but I'm guessing that's how it always is with him. That quote before you fight him about men rubbing flesh and slamming bodies together was... wow. -- The scene after that with Yuri and Karin was pretty good. Got to delve a bit more into Yuri's past, find out what happened to him and his parents when they were a kid (loved his mother a whole lot, got to spend a lot more time with her when they moved to Shangai, and all that good stuff.) He mentions that he was really frustrated with his father at one point for leaving them, but Karin brings a new perspective into the picture talking about how Yuri's dad probably fought the "wizard" for him and his mother more than his country. Then she talks a bit about herself, how she joined the army to bring some dignity to her family's name, and then how she doesn't have a home anymore. All the while, Joachim and Anastasia are behind some bushes talking about steamy the conversation is getting. Don't blame with Karin trying to get all close, but Anastasia playing sideline date coach was just weird "OH COME ON, MOVE IN AND KISS HER ALREADY. TAKE YOUR SHOT. THIS IS IT. GO GO GO." WTF Anastasia. Hilarious, though. I really enjoyed the scene. -- That monster from before ends up showing up, so I fight another easy boss battle. Then Kato and his Apes show up talking about putting aside differences for the time being to stop the monster. Another easy battle (Anti-Armor Bomb killed the smaller critters easy with the Apes), then another boss battle against the big monster. Same general strategy as always -- buff Yuri, transform into Amon, pound away, win. -- Yuri ends up confronting Kato again and gets him to say where they're hiding Nicolai. I was expecting a fight to go down between Yuri and Kato here, but I'm guessing that might saved for later, if at all since Yuri doesn't seem to think Kato's the type to really be doing evil things. -- The scene afterward between Kato and Ouka is pretty strange. It turns out that Ouka is pretty much a carbon copy of the Lieutenant from the last game. It seems like he just can't get past the fact that she died and ends up saying that he has been using the Minister to further his own plans. Then he gets going into how he learned to lie, cheat, and kill since her death, which leads into Ouka saying she doesn't care if she's just a copy, she just wants to be near him. Oookay. -- Stealing the guard's outfit and sneaking into the Research Laboratory reminded me of Metal Gear Solid for some reason. That's twice this game has managed to do that. But then it flipped around and started reminding me of Final Fantasy VII with the whole experiment deal, Hojo being crazy, and then running up the stairs over and over. Fighting Hojo at the end was pretty easy, too. He had quite a bit of health, but not too much else. Never really had to worry much about dying. -- During the experiment, Nicolai's ego ended up getting pretty devastated, which allowed Astaroth to retake control of his body. So now there's a demon somewhere in the world about ready to unleash some havoc because of one idiot scientist's ambitions. Fun. This means it's time for Yuri to take down another one of these god of darkness. Yuri is the man. |

-- The old man (whose name I just can't remember) ends up telling Yuri
that there is someone waiting for him in the Forest of Wind, which is
the place in his mind from before where he talked with Albert Simon.
Once I meet back up with Roger Bacon, who somehow managed to survive DA
BEARS, it's time to head on over. Of course, once I get there, some
freaky crap happens and I'm in purgatory. Great. -- Stats update: main group (Yuri, Karin, Joachim, Kurando) are about level 40, maxed out Kurando's Demon Morph (level 10), and have all the latest equips. I've got a crapload of souls collected right now, too (I think around 1,000), and I don't feel the desire to spend them when I know the only Fusion I really use is Amon, and that there might be another, even more awesome, Fusion I get soon. Don't know if I do, but it's a feeling. Now that I have the airship back, I might need to go looking for that crazy dark power after I get out of Purgatory. --- GODSLAYER AWW YEAH |
