It's time for a Man Festival (HM just bought Shadow Hearts: Covenant!)

Too bad Frank is completely worthless in the English version, and anyone who thinks differently is sub-durango in taste.

Frank is indeed lost in translation. still entertaining though.

not as good as Joachim, but still fun to have around.

Wait, you mean Frank was even better in the japanese version?

I just liked his shamelessness in SH3.

Frank in Japanese... is hard to explain. basically he'd switch between japanese and broken English right in the middle of a sentence. it was really ridiculous and pretty funny. it's rather difficult to translate that, obviously.

-- I got through Purgatory pretty easy. All I needed to do was light all of the candles by passing under the stars in one run. Some clever planning beforehand made it cake.

-- The secret to Garan's floating is the...pillow?! Let's just say I'd like to sign-up for a floating pillow like that. The baby gone wrong wasn't much of a challenge from the previous battle, though. I supposed it helped that Joachim was in his Golden Bat form and given a 36% increase in his physical attack power (hello there 800 damage).

-- After getting through that, I made it to Kurando's hometown -- Inugami Village. Pretty nice place. Kurando's mother wanted to see him immediately in at the shrine or something, though, so it was off to there. Kurando's got a pretty nice mom there. But conversation didn't last long before she starts pulling out some voodoo to show where Nicolai was at, which happened to be in Mt. Fuji. Kato and his Mutant Apes were there, too, looking for him.

-- I'm not sure what kind of hax Kurando's mother has, but she apparently was able to be there without being there...or something. Astaroth wasn't too pleased with that, so he decides to possess her, turning her into some freak with four arms. Easy boss battle ensues.

-- Back at her home, she's all like "Aw, Yuri. You so cute. I'm your Aunt," which is like...wow. That explains the whole red eye thing that seems to run in that family, and it also explained Yuri's Fusion technique, which he got from his father. But, of course, Yuri has untapped potential, and is a bit unique with being able to fuse into multiple monsters instead of just one. Aww yeah, go Yuri.

-- The next place I'm supposed to go is the Immortal Mountain, but I made a detour to check out the sidequest that tranny mentioned earlier. Turns out this castle place was almost near identical to the place I was at earlier during the Jovis section. I, uh, had no idea what I was doing here. I just started walking through mirrors and stuff and then the next thing I know, I'm at the end of the place. There's a cool exchange between Albert and Yuri (I'm really looking forward to playing SH1 to see how that whole thing came to be), and then it's time to do battle with Neo Amon.

Much like the rest of the enemies in this dungeon, Neo Amon packed quite a bunch. Nearly all of his moves hit for quite a bit of damage, so I had Karin working the Arc Cure to make sure I was keeping at a good area. Buffed Yuri and Kurnado pounded away with some mixture of healing and pounding from Joachim. More challenging the the usual boss, but still nothing that I couldn't handle. Afterward, I got the Neo Amon soul!

-- Once I did that, I checked out the Graveyard to make upgrade everything to Grade 3 (I had, like, 1700 Souls charged up, so I figured it'd be good to spend them; still ended up having 1000 or so left, too.) I also used the Soul Drop that I had found in Inugami on the Dark element to get the final soul there. From what I've read -- since I got curious -- I need to find the other five Soul Drops, upgrade everything to Grade 3, max out the non-elemental Fusions to 10 (already did it), and then see some scene to get the final Fusion: Dark Seraphim. Thinking about doing that before progressing the story, along with anything else I might need to do that's optional.

Dark Seraphim is pretty rewarding. Also, you need to switch Joachim out for Anastasia and do Neam Revist.

can't get the final fusion until you enter the final dungeon. you need to do a lot of other stuff too, including a really annoying sidequest dungeon and a nasty boss fight.

remember Neam? take that and add more annoying block puzzles. it's certainly solvable without a FAQ, but nothing that's especially fun.

yeah, Tiff Castle is all you can do as far as dungeons go. there's tons of little sidequest things you can trigger just by revisiting old areas, but nothing as big as an optional dungeon with some phat lootz like Neo Amon.

Wait, what's wrong with the Mt. Fuji dungeon? Unless I'm wrong, isn't that where you fight you know who and during the fight you know what happens to you know who.

<_<

Trying to avoid spoilers here. If it's the dungeon I'm thinking of, I rather liked it.

-- All right, The Immortal Mountain wasn't too bad -- but that's probably because tranny dropping a "(red -> blue -> yellow)" hint saved me some time and trouble. I don't think any of the dungeons have been quite as good as they were in Disc 1, but it's still keeping up with some pretty solid design. I'm more concerned at this point, though, with the storyline, so these dungeons are just breaking my time to see what happens next, which might factor in why I'm not going nuts over them like before. Who knows!

-- I ran into the Ring Soul, and Yuri talked him into impersonating his wife the next time he shows up. Man, I'm anxious to find the next Ring Soul so I can see that. It's got epic written all over it.

-- When I got to Astaroth, Nicolai is over there in some crystal assuming the fetal position, Kato looks like he's taken a beating from trying to take him down or something, and then the Mutant Apes show up out of nowhere to console him. After that and some clever remarks from Yuri, it's time to take down another god of darkness. All in a day's work for Yuri, eh? ...But I want to know why these destructive gods are so...not threatening when the battle rolls around. I can't say there has been any stand out boss who was challenging in a while. Neo Amon probably doesn't make things harder.

-- With Astaroth defeated, Nicolai is back in control of his own body. Karin tries to go near him for some strange reason, but Yuri's there to knock her out of the way before Nicolai gets to her -- but this ends up with him getting stabbed with something. I swear, every villain in this game can only avoid getting a beating from Yuri due to that stupid Mistletoe. He tries pulling that crap out again, but Kato is there to punch him in the face. Nicolai pulls out some long red thing and stabs...Ouka. Holy crap that was unexpected. I was like "Dude. That's just not right. :(" It kind of sucks for Kato because I kept thinking, "Man, that's like losing someone you love twice in one lifetime. That's pretty bad." Oh, and Nicolai's head gets crushed in Kato's hands, which was pretty awesome because Nicolai sucked.

-- After being knocked out for three days, Yuri eventually recovers back at the shrine in Inugami. There was another soul scene with Yuri hearing Alice's voice behind some door that he couldn't open. Pretty intense. Karin tells him that Kato said that he needed to go to the Foreigner's Cemetery if he ended up living. When Yuri gets there, Kato's standing at the grave of the Lieutenant and, apparently, Ouka next to her. He tells Yuri how he has no dreams, nothing to live for, and all that. Then he gives him back the Manuscript, saying that with that he can bring Alice back to life. It also turns out that Kato is also going to be Yuri's enemy from this point forward, and that the world is going to end by his hands without the use of any evil gods. Before leaving, he tells Yuri where he can find Ishimura.

-- So it's time to bust into his headquarters. Plowing through wave after wave of Titantium Soldiers, Yuri eventually gets up to top floor to confront Ishimura. But, it's time for the toughest boss battle in a long time -- Mecha Lord. Now, I say "hard" because my usual strategy of "Buff Yuri and pound away with physical attacks for ~800 damage per turn" didn't work here because this guy has physical immunity hax. Instead, I used plenty of combos that got kicked off with "Die, Scumbag!" and ended up doing roughly 1100 per combo. He hit pretty hard, too, so I had to spend some turns healing with Joachim's Cure All.
ZFS | Posted 5/3/2007 10:20:22 PM | message detail | #431
-- The next scene with Yuri talking to Ishimura was pretty damn awesome. Ishimura's whole goal was to save Japan from the west, and he needed to do use Nicolai to start it off with Russia, who Nicolai was going to eventually become the new Tsar. When Yuri calls him out on how that would start a whole new war with all sorts of people dying, he says it was a "unfortunate necessity." That's about the point where Yuri goes off, but Ishimura's grandson comes out of the closest and says not to hurt him. Too enraged, he pushes the kid aside and just starts pounding away. Ishimura tries to say not to hurt his grandson because he's innocent, but Yuri, while beating him senseless, tells him to think about how many parents said the exact same thing about their kids when his soldiers were killing them.

-- Back in Inugami, Yuri has a pretty good talk with Bacon. Roger tells him that it's normal to feel how he is -- he wanted to kill Ishimura, but he just couldn't do it. Yuri says that he had no idea what he was fighting for the moment Ishimura's grandson stepped out. Bacon tells him that he's fighting for Alice, her dreams, the world she loved, and then himself. He tells Yuri it's not like him to get so down, and that you have to just keep laughing, because it's hard to live a life with no regrets. Then Bacon ends saying that he's going to bring Alice back for him. Hello there bringing the dead back to life. No idea how this is going to turn out. Really good scene, I thought, though.

-- After that, it switches over to Karin telling Yuri's Aunt about how much she loves him, but that he doesn't share the same feelings, since he's still in love with Alice. I can't say this was much of a surprise with how Karin acts around Yuri. Saki (I think that's her actual name) ends up giving her a card that showed what Yuri looked like when he was a kid.

-- Let's see... oh, I fought another one of those dog bouts to get the "Full Moon" move for Blanca. And, I swear, Blanca is like Solid Snake with wolf camo. Don't bring your personal feelings to the battlefield? Sneaking around in the shadows? Solid Blanca.

-- My entire main team is right around level 50 right now. I've got an absurd amount of souls saved up (thinking about 2000; probably going to save those for the Dark Seraphim later on, unless that comes at level 10). Got a crapload of cash (500,000), and.... I think that's it. The next stop is back in Europe at Queen's Garden.
