I've probably put around 200, maybe 300 hours into Final Fantasy X. It
really is just a magnificent game. Great story, interesting characters,
hypnotic music, breathtaking environments, addictive character
building, a brilliant levelup system, and the best turn-based battle
system ever. Overall, this is a great list. Awesome writeups, as usual. --- Rebel. Revolutionary. Disharmonious. UNMUTUAL. |

There are a couple of more things I want to touch on pretty quickly.
The first was that I want to applaud the developers at Square for
ditching the world map -- hallelujah. I don't know about anyone else,
but oversized characters and shrunken towns/locales are not my idea of
finely crafted world. It was fine for its time, but I'm glad it was
ditched. People might call out the game being too linear that way
(which I already covered), but that allowed for the world to flourish,
to be able to be detailed in a way that it wouldn't have if we had to
go to a silly world map. Everything flowed very well. Have you played DQVIII? That's the perfect example of a world map done right in modern RPG's. --- "It's a magical world, Hobbes, ol' buddy...let's go exploring!"- Calvin R.I.P. Steve Irwin. You shall be missed ;_; |

+1 for acknowledging TTS' badassness :) honestly, MGS has never been realistic, it's cinematic and serious but as you noted it does not take itself seriously. is it more realistic for snake to sidestep a piece of debris rather than leaping backward and throwing a grenade at it? possibly. but what fun would that be D: TTS' only real flaw is that enclosure was removed from the soundtrack, which sucks, but I can deal with it. |

"To Zanarkand." I don't know what got into Uematsu, if even he
composed the piece, but that is one of the most beautiful pieces of
music I've heard in a videogame. I don't think FFX has the best
soundtrack out there, but it certainly holds the best single piece of
music. I have no problem listening to that song over and over again,
especially when you hear it done by a full orchestra. A) yes, it was uematsu. what got into him? I'd ask the same about FFIV-IX's soundtracks on the whole, he's long kicked ass :) B) have you heard this remix of that song? http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00617. I'm not a huge fan of the original, tbh, but speaking of great orchestral arrangements, I do love this |

What was wrong with it? I've been meaning to purchase it eventually. There's nothing really wrong with DQVIII, per say, it is just extremely traditional. There's only four playable characters, it uses the old school turn-based system, you can only save in towns, and it follows that dungeon-crawl-then-visit-town formula. Also, it's just too long for some people. It takes at least 80 hours to beat it, and that's not an exageration. Finally, while the characters are often humorous and the dialogue is well written, the story is very bland. I played it for about 30 hours, and it was incredibly fun. But then for some odd reason I just got bored with it after those 30 hours and put it down. Maybe some day I'll pick up where I left off, and I'll enjoy another 30 hours. --- "It's a magical world, Hobbes, ol' buddy...let's go exploring!"- Calvin R.I.P. Steve Irwin. Suiko1 -- Flik/Alen/Viktor; Tir/Kasumi/Stallion Suiko2 -- Sierra/Georg Prime/Flik; Riou/Clive/Killey Suiko3 -- Hugo/Lucia; Chris/Lilly; Geddoe/Sasarai A) yes, it was uematsu. what got into him? I'd ask the same about FFIV-IX's soundtracks on the whole, he's long kicked ass :) Yeah. I wasn't sure if it was him or one of the other people helping him with FFX's soundtrack. Yeah, there's a glitch that will make some people join you at level 99. Man, you earn so much credibility in this topic, and then it's like you go out of your way to toss it all away. Saying Viktor sucks does give me credibility, see. Xenosaga 3?!? Only the Semi Style version !! I'm not the one who created a separate youtube account so that he could fill its favorites list with nothing but the Shion shower scene. That's what makes him awesome. Brilliant, cunning, masterful at manipulation and political intrigue. He was a nuanced character, incredibly ruthless yet driven by his own sense of twisted idealism. Pfft. At least Luca came off as a genuine threat. Jowy just kept making me think "okay, so how is he going to blow the perfect opportunity to win the war that Leon gave him now?" I invoke the power of the Glacial Blade! Finishing Strike! Icicle Disaster! Do not invoke such frightening power so casually, you fool! Against all the warnings Semi had given me about how no one can seem to get Valkyrie Profile working on an emulator, I used my ancient emulator technology hax and eventually got everything going smoothly. I consider myself a genius without compare for it, too! We all know him as Heroic Mario, but his true identity is that of the guardian of advanced emulation technology. He is the emulation guardian, HM Kaiser! Semi will try to lie and say some bosses no sell it -- but no one no sells Lenneth. Brahms, Lezard, Surt... Wow, voice acting in a PSX game? Neato. Play Koudelka. Fully voice-acted, and the VA work is really, really good. Anyway, good list, good write-ups, blah blah blah. Make a characters list again.
