Best FF soundtrack? Eh, I'm just really getting into the series (well, I'm just really getting into RPGs entirely, actually....I'm still not a big fan of the genre, but I'm trying to play the best out there and get more enjoyment out of it), but I'd have to probably say FFVII. Ironically, I've never actually played FFVII (hopefully I'll be getting it off eBay soon, although I've been saying that for ages now >_>), but I've listened to most of the tracks in the game and I love 'em.

And you never answered my question about this argument we had. I usually remember arguments too, but apparently not this one. Elaboration please?

It's fun when my friends ask to see what's on my iPod and are like "Uhh, what is this stuff?" and hand it back to me!

Hearts of Oak is great, but I like of Tyranny of Distance more. However, judging by your tastes, I think you'd like The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lips more. But if you've already heard some of their stuff and don't like it, definitely go for ToD.

...okay, fine. what's your favourite username on board 8?

SEP: I know, my friends are bastards. I punched one in the face later that night.

monocles or handlebar moustaches?

Redtooth: favourite NES game?

Leonhart: I haven't been in the stats topic for over two months thanks to how bad it got towards the end of contest season. I had to bust out the GameFOX ignore list in order to make the place readable, and even then it was tough since everyone else would respond to the trolling and dumb questions/ideas.

is it better now? should I come back? is anything worthwhile being discussed?

In GF history? Hmm...

That would have to be around when I first got here. There was a much smaller pool of users, but you saw many of them everywhere, CJayC was fairly chatty, the dead boards were off-limits and off-topic posting there would get you moderated if caught (which was all the fun: not getting caught), and my first home board was in a tiem of prosperity. Great users, the G/S War, the Golden Age. I'd say November 2000 - April 2001 was my favorite time period.

Punching somebody in the face should always be your first course of action in a disagreement.

And... Dammit, that's like choosing breathing or water. Could the moustache be alive and be equipped with said monocle? Or maybe I should give my hawk, who I watch people like, with his laser eyes and perfect vision that's further improved by a monocle, a handlebar moustache. Possibilities are endless.

Endless as in with an end that I refuse to accept.

Ed Bellis: how does it feel to be the most popular person on board 8 right now? do you feel like you're being followed around or watched?

Fun right now, at least. I'm just waiting for the inevitable backlash of anti-voting that will surely come my way, possibly during User of the Year, of which I am apparently the popular favorite to win. It's nice being able to be recognized when I make topics and do projects most of the time, but I also know that I partially get the attention because I put a lot of work into them.

I will say that I don't expect it to last forever, certainly, but I'm not thinking about that right now. Right now it's just a lot of fun. Ask me again in a month or so when I become the subject of some weird drama that will develop around me. >_>

As far as being "followed around" goes, I haven't noticed. There's my "usual crew" that normally posts the same places I do, but no, nothing stalker-ish or anything. Again, ask me again in a month or so. >_>

favourite NES game?

That's quite a tough one...There were quite a few amazing games. Contra, duck hunt, SMB3 and ninja gaiden are all games I've never stopped playing since I got them.

But I think Blades of Steel would have to be my all time favorite. We managed to get an NES in our room, and we have weekend tournaments of that game.

What's yours?

I played last week actually. I'm not extremely fond of the grinding but some other RPGs are just as bad so it's not that big a deal to me. On an unrelated note I am going to kill my aunts dog. Stupid ****ing dog spilled my coke on my keyboard or I would have answered sooner as I had to find a new keyboard since that one doesn't work anymore.

why do you love SM64 so much?

First there's the fact that it was the first game I ever saw and the first game I ever played.
Second, it was one of the first games to actually let you explore an expansive area in 3 dimensions, and I love that feeling of freedom (I enjoy most 3D platformers, actually). The areas also seem to be alive, full of energy. And energy = good (I'm looking at you, Rusty Bucket Bay!).
Third, it has endless replayability, and that's one of the things I find to be most important to a game.
And then there's that indescribable feeling that seems to draw me into the game when I play.

As for the 3's, I actually didn't create my username. My sister wanted me to have an AIM account, but I couldn't think of a name. My sister's friend ended up making the name and account for me, and I've stuck with that name ever since.

I do about 35 posts a day here :)

Anyway, level design by far. Linearity is a huge turn-off in FPSes today for me. Half-Life 2 felt like a straight line, it's like an obstacle course. I really hate that. It's like a storyteller telling the exact same story off of sheets of paper word-for-word. Linearity is really uinteresting to me. Doom on the other hand, e1m2 for example, the level could take 30 seconds, or 6 minutes, depending on the path you take and how much you explore.

You can speed through or take your time, there's a huge difference in gameplay depending on how you pace yourself. Modern FPSes like HL2, Quake IV, Prey, the battles are intermittant. You battle a bit and then everythings empty and you search for the next battle. In Doom, there are no pauses, unless you get lost. But that can't happen with the automap.

The three-episodes of the game are set-up awesomely too--Phobos, Lost Deimos, and Hell. The weapon balance for each episode is very different, the monsters in the episodes are very different, the themes really. They tell a story WITH the gameplay, instead of by interrupting gameplay.

In other FPSs you fight 2-3 "smart" enemies at once. A few "smart" enemies are boring to fight. I much prefer Doom's 10-15 crazy dumb enemies at once. They follow simple rules. They'll even fight each other. It's more fun to play with them than play against a computer.

And multiplayer of course is insane. Yeah, almost positive you could deathmatch in the original doom.
