I feel like I skipped some people.. let me make sure.

Heroic Palmer: what's with the Palmer obsession? is it just the truck?

if that's the case, would "Heroic Truck" be a better username?

Grand Healer: easy question that no one ever answers: if you hate this place so much (as you seem to state with every other post you make), why do you continually post here?

Metool: agreed on Metroid Fusion, though I think a couple of them are fun.. Nightmare in particular. I think that Metroid Fusion led Metroid down a path that may be difficult to recover from storyline-wise, with the x and the weakness to cold and whatnot.

what five users that are no longer here do you miss the most?

WildChocobo: do you ever get tired of the PS3/Wii arguments?

Soul: if you were merely busy, why did you feel the need to say you were "leaving board 8"? when I'm busy with life or whatnot, I just do other stuff for a week and I doubt anybody notices.

anyway, 'nuff o' that. have you ever played Actraiser? it's one of my favourite games.

EC:

Yup... can you touch the inner lining of your butthole without freaking out?

no.

what was your best contest result? your best upset pick? your stupidest pick of all time?

mnm:

I know this all just went over your head, right? <_<;

not any more than Aprosenf's explanation of his stats! I'm almost jealous of you, I've grown so disillusioned with school ever since I graduated even though I love to learn. I hate it.

how is grad school? better or worse than undergrad? and with grad school and working full time and travelling, are you completely swamped for time / stressed?

leadrboardsteve:

Yeah, mini-golf is the ****. You can take all your friends, its much cheaper, doesn't take anywhere near as long, and if you get a hole-in-one on the 18th you get a free game afterwards (at most places).

the last time I played mini-golf, my friend was up 1 and I pulled off this ridiculous hole in 1 to win by 1. I won a free game of golf and he never wanted to play with me again after I got so lucky. I never so much as turned it in. wuss!

Uh...I know I've seen at least one Robert Deniro movie, but I'm drawing a complete blank on this question. Sorry, I'm not much of a movie person. >_>

Perhaps we should move to another subject.

Ed Bellis: sorry about mindreading, I was adding and subtracting as I went there and left that in. I'd put pyramania last and teleporting first, probably. I dunno! mindreading would be pretty low too.

what games (popular or not) do you feel like you should really get around to playing because of their importance, popularity or something else? for example, I should probably play Ocarina of Time someday to see what the big deal is, or Halo to see if it's worth all the love / hate. you?

Jay: I adore Tetris. I can never get enough of it and I think multiplayer Tetris with a friend at your skill level is up there as the best things in gaming.

what is your most prized possession?

I thought Palmer was pretty much the best thing out of FFVII when a played it then one day i think during my second playthrough i realized that he never died (which makes him the only villlain I believe that didn't die) Then i came to Gamefaqs and saw that everyone had "Heroic" usernames so I made one in tribute to Palmer. The truck is Palmer's mortal enemy! It almost killed him! In fact trucks should no longer exist so Palmer could take over the world!

If i saw a Heroic Truck username i would **** myself in fear!

what is your most prized possession?

I'll agree that multiplayer Tetris is awesome... though I'd have to go further and say that head-to-head Dr. Mario against my dad (who is phenomenal at the game, and around my skill level... yeah that sounded really conceited) is the best experience I've had in gaming.

My most prized possession... Well, the most important thing to me is my Bible because without it I'd be lost, but Bible's are fairly common, so the one thing that I have that I wouldn't want to be without would either be my computer (custom-build and awesome), my DS, or my Wii. There aren't enough killer apps for Wii yet for me to choose that as #1, and my computer isn't very portable, so I'd have to say my DS.

Not many. You know I don't play games, silly!

If any game fit that bill with me it'd be FF7, even though I know pretty much the whole storyline. Were I ambitious I would probably acquire a "copy" of Grim Fandango based on all the good things I've heard about it; it's what I did with Earthbound.

I actually plan on getting some stuff and playing it on my roommate's PS2 at some point: FF7, FF9 (storyline seems up my alley), SotN. Those are the only games I can think of that I "should" play. Also, Twilight Princess, once my roommate gets done with it. I've also been told to check out the Ratchet and Clank series, since I love platformers so much.

Games I'd like to play? Yoshi's Island DS (absolutely loved the original) and New Super Mario Bros. There's my taste for ya. =P

neon:

I wouldn't consider myself as such. I'm a multiplayer whore, and most early games simply don't feature the multiplayer I want. Games where I can play with and against other players have really dominated my playtime in the past several years. I'm not a video game superstar, so I'm not in dire need of competition and proving myself.. I just enjoy the thrill of team play, especially against other teams. I prefer co-op games to strict pvp games, i.e. I like Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance and Marvel Ultimate Alliance much more than fighting games.

hmm.. I actually happen to think that older games are better for multiplayer. well, newer games are great for party-type stuff, what with four players and online and all that fancy stuff, but, well, I just don't have that many friends. actually, it's just rare that I play games with more than one person, not to mention that my friends suck at video games. so it's rarely very fun.

and while on fighting games, I think the most fun I ever had was when I had a friend of equal skill level in Street Fighter 2. I played more SF2 in the 90's than anything else, I think.

rank these things in terms of importance to gaming:

atmosphere
gameplay
story
control
replay value

Sine:

oh, I have a lot of questions I could ask you.

- do you ever feel compromised by your position as a moderator?

- do you think people treat you differently because of said status?

ehh, just those for now.

pikaness: I have a badass bright yellow Nestle Quik shirt, notable because it's so old that it's before Nestle Quik became Nesquik. it makes me stand the hell out, mostly because I usually dress in bland colours - black, white, grey, dark blue. well, that and you can see me from Taiwan.

what's your favourite gaming series?

SEP: a doctor, huh? something tells me you best start studying more and spending less time on board 8!

what do you think about being here in five, six years? will you be? will it be awkward to you?

good! Moon Safari is top 20 to me, I think. I'm working on a list right now, I'll show it to you next week. another Air album will be top 10 though.

and sucks on your girlfriend! aren't you only like 16? well, you've got time at least.

tell me what you think of these songs:

http://transience.paragonsigma.com/The_Shredders-Captain_Planet-live.mp3
http://transience.paragonsigma.com/dyschordia/dyschordia%20-%20misericordia.mp3

Cool, I'll look forward to the list and make sure to check out the out whichever Air album is on it.

We're actually 17, so college is on everyones' minds right now. Fortunately, she changes her mind about where she wants to go for college every month or so, so hopefully it'll be somewhere else within a week or two.

As for the songs, the first one was awesome. I couldn't stop laughing at the screaming part, and the rest was good as well. The second one was good too, but I honestly can't see myself just listening to it and not doing anything else. It seems like it'd be great to relax to, or make really good background music.

how is grad school? better or worse than undergrad? and with grad school and working full time and traveling, are you completely swamped for time / stressed?

Well, I haven't actually started school yet! <_<; I'm starting school this semester. I'm only taking one class this semester, so time shouldn't be a problem. My job isn't stressful at all, and my graduate program tailors right to it. Besides this class I'm taking, 98% of the curriculum can be done without stepping a foot in the classroom. I can watch the lectures online and e-mail all of my work in. So traveling shouldn't be an issue at all.

Besides, I'm not doing much else with my time. I'm away from all of my college friends so I don't go out nearly as much as I used to. I'm 4 hours from home in Miami, but my friends there don't do anything either. So I'm just here in Orlando going to work, working out in the evenings, and coming home. I go out sometimes, but that's about it. Adding on a class or two a semester will be just fine for me.

Epyo: do you speed run Doom? with a game like that, I can't imagine it being my favourite unless I sat there playing it into the ground, like I do with Metroid.

No, not a speedrunner at all. For one thing, Doom and Doom 2 are probably some of the most speedrunned games of all time, so it would be ridiculously impossible for me to make a dent in the fastest times. Doom 2 in 30 minutes? There's probably some levels that take me 30 minutes alone. I'm not even very good at the game anyway, to be honest. I've never beaten e1m3 on Nightmare, though I've tried many times.

Plus I'm pretty much against speedrunning in general. To the speedrunners, props to you guys, but I would never do it. It would change my view of the game for the worse. SotN for instance, I've seen Lucid's run and IIRC he doesn't even touch the purple caves, which is one of my favorite parts of the game. You skip over enemies and stuff, and generally play the game in ways that the designers didn't want you to play. Maybe I'm a completionist.

Although sometimes I do just set a time limit for myself very casually and such, or do a "pacifist" run through, where you don't hurt a single enemy yourself. The game is quite flexible.

And besides, Doom/Doom 2 have an outrageous amount of custom levels and total conversion mods out for em in the archives, doomworld.com/idgames I think. Probably in the ten-thousands range. Soo, it doesn't really get boring. I also used to be a somewhat well-known map maker myself, but now I've become a super-procrastinator.

I keep typing a lot, but they're damn good questions! I've got whatpulse on anyway.

"anyway, what's the most expensive thing you've ever purchased?"

A computer. It's 2-3 years old now, so I am going to buy another for my birthday in feb. I shouldn't have paid as much as I did though, at the time I knew nearly nothing about computers, and bought a pre-built one, which are pricy for no good reason. I plan to make a much smarter decision next time.

Redtooth: an 2d RPG fanatic, huh? for some reason I only get into popular 2d RPGs - mostly things made by Square and Crystalis. well and Dragon Warrior. I'm generic like that.

though once 3d RPGs hit, I'm all over the place. something about 3d RPGs are just better to me, I think their added depth. 2d RPG storylines and gameplay work, but they lack the depth that later games have. I don't think there's a single RPG character prior to FF7 that I care about because of that.

what do you think about internet relationships?

Harmonica:

Well, I play Disgaea and plan to get Disgaea 2, but apart from them...not nearly as much as I'd want to. I don't have a job so I can't buy that many new games, and if I do buy a full-priced game, it's usually a "safe" and mainstream purchase like KH or FF. Besides, there are still many games that never get to Europe. Xenosaga III and the new Shadow Hearts don't even have a release date and Dragon Quest VIII was actually the first DQ game released in Europe.

one thing I don't get -- why don't Europeans by American consoles? you get games way earlier (assuming you guys get them at all) and your currency completely owns ours so you'd probably get stuff cheaper. why not just buy an American PS2 and not have to wait 9 months for Kingdom Hearts 2? or what's going on 7 years for Chrono Cross?

Crono:

That's true, when I first cut my hair I was amazed at how fast it dried. However, short hair isn't hard at all to manage so I don't know if I'd shave it just to avoid having to mess with my hair.

I remember when I shaved my head and I'd move my head back and forth expecting my hair to follow.. AND IT WASN'T THERE. for like a month that drove me nuts. but then I was like "hey, this washing your hair thing is actually fast now! this is pretty badass!" and I haven't missed it since.

Lunar:SSSC
Final Fantasy X
Lunar:EBC
Earthbound
Pump It Up Zero
Final Fantasy Tactics
Suikoden II
Chrono Trigger
Metal Gear Solid 3
Phantasy Star Online

I did not like SSSC at all, but I did manage to like EB. my favourite games on there are probably the popular ones (CT and FF10), though the rest aren't bad at all. could never get into PIU cause of that fifth panel, that was just really awkward to me.

I seem to recall something happening with your girlfriend.. pregnancy, maybe? or a threesome? something weird that the board of course got into. what was it and how did it turn out?

Blitztrugg: I've never really played Bubble Bobble.. it's like the one NES game I never got around to playing. my faves are Tetris and Zoop. Zoop is wonderful.

what's the most embarassing thing that's ever happened to you?

why don't Europeans buy American consoles?

I'm pretty sure it's because of the PAL vs. NTSC T.V. difference... and maybe the reason they don't import NTSC T.V.'s is because of the electrical differences? I'm not sure... I'm pretty sure TV's have something to do with it - that's why I still haven't gotten around to playing the original Zero Wing.

My mom promised me a PAL T.V. along with a Sega MegaDrive and Zero Wing if I manage to get a full-ride scholarship to college though :)

Some people do import them, but I think there's a bunch of fees at the customs and other complicated stuff that doesn't really make it worth the trouble. And there hasn't really been any game - not even KHII - that I've wanted so much that I couldn't wait for it.

I don't think there's a single RPG character prior to FF7 that I care about because of that.

I kind of feel the opposite. I can't feel any sort of connection to any 3d RPG character. The added dimension makes them feel shallow and boring, personally.

what do you think about internet relationships?

Internet relationships as in love relationships or just regular ones? Whatever, I'll just answer both.

Love relationships over the internet are interesting. They take all the problems I see in a real-world love relationship and exponentiate (it's a word, damnit). Lies, jealousy, pointless drama all explode when on MMOs/BBSs/IRC and such. There's also the lack of face to face and body communication, which I find very important in relationships. Not just sex, but just looking into your partner's eyes seems incredibly important in a continuing relationship.

But that's not to say they aren't possible, or even stupid. It just means an internet relationship is going to take a whole hell of a lot more work to keep above the water. And it isn't impossible. I know a couple in my guild who met over a MUD and have been married 10 years. You just need to be ready to make the effort...and take criticism from pretty much every direction. Because I can only imagine what my parents/family would have to say about something like that...

And just friendly relationships are a different story. Internet friendship is incredibly fickle and almost effortless. The multitudes of people swarming online make finding people you enjoy talking to virtually effortless. And it isn't exactly hard to be accepted. Even old, closed communities don't mind people who aren't asshats. So I really do like internet friendships, even ephemeral ones. You never have to be too close, but you can still be good friends.

Gfaqs is the most unsettled kind of place I've been on, really. People come and go almost non-stop, so it makes it hard to connect without having some sort of "personality" or something everyone knows you for. So I can't say I know anyone well, even after 4-5 years of being here. So I'd place most of them as "acquaintances I'd feel awkward ever talking to." But people I do know better, like those I met through IRC/Runescape, I'd consider real friends like any others I've met at school/real life.

Hmm...I seem to actually care about this question, but I've got to limit my response. I feel odd when I post walls of text and kind of force someone to read it >_>

Shivan: CT/LTTP is my favourite contest match too, though Xenogears/Pokemon is my favourite result. that and Sub-Zero/Master Chief because I picked it right.

how about worst contest result? mine was either Mario/Samus (because of how embarassing it turned out) or LTTP/SM (ditto). WTF METROID FANBOY

Heri_turla_Heru: 0%? racecars, lasers, aeroplanes? not ringing a bell? sucks!

I don't pay much attention to lyrics either.. well, I guess it depends on the genre. I like picking up rap/hip hop lyrics since they're kind of the focal point of the music. I don't care at all about picking up experimental lyrics since it's all about making it sound as screwy as possible.

what "indie rock" / electronica do you like? cause that's where I'm at, mostly.

Joshua: yeah, I forget to log onto aim for, like, weeks at a time. windmage always gets pissed at me cause I forget to open irc as well. you know how I am though, more than anyone else. I saw Amanda was signed on last night but passed on messaging her since I was gonna go to bed soon.. which ended up being like three hours later. wtf luke

how disappointed are you in being left out of user of the year? I love that name, it sounds so official and important, which is why I think so many people take it so seriously. Rocktillery: cool -- don't get lazy with it, those things take work. I hate it when people start something big and then drop it without intending to do anything about it - if you're going to start something, finish it. (WTF WIGS I JUST WANTED TO BE TALKED ABOUT NOT ENTERED INTO SOME CONTEST THING)

rock > scissors > paper, definitely. what's your favourite animal?

Mershiness: do you think harassing people on things like AIM and then posting them on a message board is funny or disgusting?

I tihnk it can be a bit funny if it's just to some random idiot, although it's still a bit mean from thier perspective. However, I think it's insanely mean to do it to someone directly related to the community if they didn't deserve it. For instance, if you started harassing me on AIM and somehow got me all riled up or upset, and then posted it on B8 for everyone to laugh at, that'd just be cruel.

if you guys responded to me, I'm going to respond back and ask another question. you don't need to post again. if I skip you, it's nothing personal, I just made a mistake. it can be easy to do when people start talking back and forth -- not that I mind (I encourage it), but that's why it happens.

anyway

snowy: fruit roll-ups or rice krispie treats?

wavedash: are british accents awesome? what accents are better than british accents, provided you think one exists?

swirl: what user would you like to dropkick to the moon?

ShatteredElysium: truthfully, it's not the first time Ayvuir's started a contest and then dropped it, though usually he came back. it looks like this time he's gone for a while though. like everyone else, I'm sure he'll be back.

so if I'm reading you right, you work on the UUL because it's a.) something to do and b.) lets people notice you? I think that's more then fair and I believe a lot of people start contests in order to be noticed / to have people start to recognize you. DSRage was notorious for this a good eight months ago, though he's calmed down. Harmonica too, to a much lesser extent. now neither of them are running contests at the moment, or at least I don't think.

you have a degree in Economics and Statistics, or just the latter? how old are you and what do you do for a living, assuming you're not still in school?

RayDyn: yeah, Crystalis does fail for its level requirements in order to hurt enemies. but I didn't think getting to level 16 was much of a problem if you found a good level spot. I could routine get levels in five minutes, which is nothing compared to the hour you have to spend slaughtering Magicians and Magidrakees and Scorpions and Skeletons to gain a single level.

I will agree with you that enemies make DQ8 enjoyable. I love those suckers, they're just so cute and enjoyable. my #1 most anticipated game is the new Dragon Warrior Monsters game because of that. I really hope it comes out here.

what's yours?

Naye:
Warioware - most brilliant and fantastic creation of Nintendo since Super Metroid. And I'm not exaggerating, either. I love any game that offers me records to improve on, so it's no surprise that WarioWare is one of my favorites. >_>

FF6 - I haven't played this in a while. I liked it a lot in the World of Balance, and not so much in the World of Ruin, so I never finished. FF4's better.

Minesweeper - really addictive game that I also hate. I can beat it pretty easily; my best Expert score is 121. Still sucks.

Checkers - I'm so bad at checkers. I don't really like it, either. Play Chess instead.

I agree with you on every point here.. dunno if I'd call Warioware the best thing since 1994.. (thinks) yeah, you might be right. depends on if it came out before or after F-Zero GX. oh wait, Metroid Fusion would have something to say about that. I know you're not a fan, but I still enjoy it since I love 2d Metroid.

Checkers does suck, and Minesweeper can enduce hate. 121 is pretty good though. I've never tried to speed run expert - I usually go for making a huge board with 200 mines (or 600 if I'm playing Minesweeper X) and play it while multitasking. multitasking is what I always do and sitting there concentrating on 'sweeper is too much for moi.

hmm.. do you enjoy jpop? what's your favourite style of music for rhythm games?

I'd never consider PW an RPG.. no battles! how would you define the term "RPG"? personally, I say you need some form of random battles and a system of gaining experience by killing said enemies. what say you?

I'd say that if you play a role, it's an rpg.

Really, ask another, because I sucked at giving you a good result with the last. Unless you're on your way to asking another and I'm not keeping check.

Well since we're only talking about that short distance, I'd dropkick Sir Chris. I'd dropkick a few others to Pluto.

Soul: if you were merely busy, why did you feel the need to say you were "leaving board 8"? when I'm busy with life or whatnot, I just do other stuff for a week and I doubt anybody notices.

I did do that for a while, and no one really did notice. Then I tried to start the 128 UC2, but had to give it up. That's why I made the topic.

anyway, 'nuff o' that. have you ever played Actraiser? it's one of my favourite games.

Never owned a SNES, so I haven't played any games on it (other then CT, LttP and SMRPG, but those were ROMs).

Let me expand upon that a bit more...

What I mean by "playing a role" is living a characters life and watching a thrilling story unfold.

When I think about RPG, I think about gathering EXP or something like that to improve your characters. PW seems more like an adventure game to me.

It's interesting. I'm not disappointed the same as I would have been a year ago. Last year's UotY was epic for me, I enjoyed every bit of it even when Smurf sabotaged me by pairing us together.

It's sort of fun giving Smurfy trouble, especially since it seems to be catching on with other people. I used to think it was funny that the guy could spend an entire year getting under people's skin as his only source of entertainment, but then run this huge contest impartially. Now I realize he doesn't, I just wasn't privy to the information before!

And I agree. Let's make an awesome user contest of awesome.
