if I fused Amazing Telephone, Horatio, fr0q and CJayC into one user, what would one of their posts look like?

It would be a topic that flames Gordon Freeman, thinking he'd dead, decides to pit himself against Midgar Zolom.

Oh, that or STA.

alpha door Orange is low! and I've never had pineapple juice. grape's where it's at though, along with orange.

what's your favourite word?

Dekar:

I'd probably go with Delita

I was like 'no wonder windmage likes him!'

(Damn it, windmage, stop working your hypnotic powers on me. :^(.)

and then you beat me to it. :)

I agree with you on Tidus. I like how he feels "real" as opposed to being some "badass" archetype which has been done a number of times and doesn't really have any depth. I'm not much of a depth person and I like Cloud more than Tidus, but I think that Tidus makes a heck of a main and really enhances FF10's story. he might not be the most likable dude (he's kind of a dork), but as a main character I think he's great.

how about Nintendo characters? I know you're a CF guy, but who else?

yazzy:

The thing I would like B8 to know about me would have to be my maturity. I'm 24, married, and have a full time job (from where I make most of my posts <_< Shhh). I offer help and suggestions when I can and am genuinely a nice person. It takes a lot to get me angry (one or two users have) and I think a lot of that comes from the fact that I'm mature enough not to worry about what other people on a message board think.

don't worry, I'm at work too. and you're actually two years my junior, if you didn't know. I'm not married, though! I love when I'm talking to someone who's 14 or 15 and they find out how old I am and are like "...are you married?" "do you have kids?" as if I'm some kind of fossil. Kleenex plays this up in every single topic, it's.. well, something.

how do you feel about spending time on a board where you're significantly older than most others? does it make you feel odd, pedophilic, does it not even phase you? do you feel a little bit on the outside because of the age difference?

On a side note, I'm really impressed with the thought you put into your questions. They are really meaningful and pertain directly to the person you are asking. Feel free to ask me any more questions. ^_^

thanks, I'm trying. the backlog is pretty daunting, though - just when I think every person on board 8 has posted, five new ones show up!

what's your favourite month of the year? why?

December. A few reasons. My family's really big on Christmas, so we always get all caught up in the spirit of it, two whenever it snows where I live it always seems to be in December, and I really like snow. And my birthday is also on Christmas day. But really, its just that, I think its just the general good spirit of nearly everyone I see. I remember last year (well, december of 05...), we had a half day at school, and on the same day we had a two hour delay from snow (lol 10 minute classes), and it just seemed like everything in the world at that time was perfect, and that's just something I only ever seem to get from December.

huh, that turned out a bit different than I had thought it would.

I seem to recall something happening with your girlfriend.. pregnancy, maybe? or a threesome? something weird that the board of course got into. what was it and how did it turn out?

She was afraid she was pregnant at one point, but that was just her overreacting. I also got offered to have a threesome once (with two other girls), but didn't because I wouldn't cheat on her.

I will agree with you that enemies make DQ8 enjoyable. I love those suckers, they're just so cute and enjoyable. my #1 most anticipated game is the new Dragon Warrior Monsters game because of that. I really hope it comes out here.

what's yours?

Tough question really. Recently, I haven't been able to keep up with what's coming out due to moving across country, and other real life concerns. But off the top of my head, I would have to say FFXIII, but that is probably not very accurate since I don't really know what is on the horizon as far as video games go. Dragon Warrior Monsters sounds fun. For a while I was looking forward to Assassins Creed just because the premise of doing a stealth type game during the Crusades appeals to my fondness of history. As far as computer games go I heard something about a game called S.T.A..L.K.E.R. that sounded cool, but other than those I really haven't looked at what is coming in the future, so I can't give you a completely all encompassing answer.

I don't know how common people like me are but my tastes are pretty eclectic in just about everything, music, movies, video games. I like FPSs, RPGs, RTSs, puzzle games, platformers, etc. I own Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft consoles, so I couldn't really call myself a fanboy of any one company.

Anyway, I kinda rambled on there, I hope I answered your question and didn't bore you.

It doesn't bother me. There are plenty of users here that act mature enough that I don't think about it. If everyone acted really immature then I probably wouldn't stick around. I guess I really don't think about it. And I use it to my advantage. I try to give advise to people that are willing to listen. I have experience with things that they don't have. So in a way it's kind of nice.

Heh, I'm one of the new ones that showed up. ^_^ Take your time responding to me. I won't be on the rest of the night. Good luck!

how about worst contest result? mine was either Mario/Samus (because of how embarassing it turned out) or LTTP/SM (ditto). WTF METROID FANBOY

Mario/Samus was bad for me. I was doing quite well in that contest as I had just correctly pegged Vincent to win the Devil Division. But I knew after the third round that Mario would beat Samus so I wasn't surprised that Mario won but that he won with nearly 60%. That was a bad day on the board too since the Mario supporters were extremely obnoxious. Lttp/SM wasn't as bad as Zelda/Metroid in the series contest. But since the whole series contest was terrible, I just try and forget about that contest. But I guess to answer your question, I'd say Jill/Peach is actually the match I got the most angry about. I took Jill both times over Ryu H. and Peach. I could take a down to the wire failed comeback attempt once, when it happened a second time... ugh.

how about Nintendo characters? I know you're a CF guy, but who else?

If I use the same criteria for this as I did for FF characters, it would be Ike. After playing Fire Emblems 6-8, I really wasn't expecting much from any Fire Emblem character, but FE9 really improved that, and made a rather interesting, and well designed character. Pretty nice surprise, and helped me to enjoy FE9 almost as much as 6-7 despite how much easier it was.

Of course, using the same criteria for Nintendo characters is kinda silly. With Nintendo characters, I usually just take into account style points, how much fun they are to control/fight against, and how much I like the game they're from. Using those criteria, Captain Falcon is my favorite Nintendo character. Act surprised. <_<. Other than that? Probably Falco. Probably my favorite character to play as in SSBM, I like Star Fox 64 quite a bit, and wiseasses kick ass. <_<. I should probably buy a post-SF64 Star Fox game some time.

Oh, I did indeed. Well, I'd have to say that I prefer 3D games more. They just allow more freedom, and can do most things that 2D games can do. Plus, since almost all games that come out for consoles and PC nowadays are 3D, I've experienced many more good 3D games than good 2D games.

Mega Mana:

Anyways, to answer you question... um... hold on...um... Maybe Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap back in September? I blaze through a game up until you can tell it's getting close to the end, and then I just sort of give up on the game and go play something else or I'll just stop playing halfway through because something else interests me and I can'tg o back to the game I was just playing ever. Most recent examples are Final Fantasy V Advance, Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage, Advance Wars II, and Tecmo Supr Bowl.

that's cool, and a lot like me. I've played about 2 hours of FF7 this week, spread out over five different times. and last week, I'd pick up Portrait of Ruin and boss rush for 20-30 minutes. I used to have a lot of problems getting to the end of games and stopping (such as Minish Cap, actually, and more recently FF5A), but now I just don't play enough games to worry about that.

would you rather replay old favourites of yours or try to find new games you may or may not enjoy?

Chris:

Well I was joking about you, obviously. Most of the time I guess I find it satisfying to tell someone a very blunt truth. A lot of people are dumbasses, I guess I just don't want to put up with it. Although sometimes I just do it to **** with people to see how they will take it. Isn't traditional trolling, but it works.

hmm, fair enough. is there any game (FFTA aside) that you get flat-out offended if someone says they like it?

PepsiPlunge

I have a deceptively simple question for you - how are you? I'd like it if you went into detail.

I'm doing just fine. Sadly there's no real details to go into. If there's something you're really wanting to know, just ask.

I was afraid you'd say that -- I always get this feeling that, despite the fact that I've shared this board with you for two years and see you post a lot, I feel like I don't know a single thing about you. yeah, I know your tastes and that you're board 8's wrestling drug dealer, but I don't know a thing personally about you. what kind of things do you like to do when not online or watching wrestling? are you happy? are you in school? do you have plans in life? (I don't, for the record)

so basically, yeah. what's up?

eee:

Teehee. No I am single. The weird thing (which I'm sure everyone else deals with) is when I'm single I want to be in a relationship, and when I'm taken I want out. Oh well, I'll just keep getting these phone numbers and hopefully find the right girl.

I actually completely understand that. I find that crushing on people is more fun than actually being with them. I have no idea what's up with that.

would you punch your best friend, ever? what would it take to get you to do it?

hiko: easy question: where ya been? haven't seen you much lately, though that could be me.

Ex:

And now that I have completed it, the anticipation was warranted. TP's the best game ever. Yes, it tops FFVII for me. The only real thing that FFVII has over it is characters, story, and music(slightly). TP's gameplay is leaps and bounds better, and the music/characters aren't too far behind FFVII's. Twilight Princess, for me, was nearly everything I could ever want in a Zelda game, nay, a video game period.

I'm not sure if you realize this... with your "**** ZeldaFAQs" rants last year, do you realize that you're pulling a Heroic Mario in ways not even Heroic Mario could? how do you feel about that? do you care about a certain "image" that you've cultivated here at board 8?
Mega Mana | Posted 1/5/2007 7:37:43 PM | message detail | #464
I like to think I like to play old favorites, and sometimes I really do (Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Evermore), but usually I'll get frustrated by not remembering how to get some secret thing or whatever. Pretty much anything that hooks me early I'll like to play. And if there isn't a lot of micromanagement (rotating party members, multiple armies, tons and tons of attributes), I'll usualyl enjoy the game. Not that games with many characters are turn-offs, I'll just usually succumb to using FAQs for every little thing or become way too frustrated trying to keep all characters roughly the same level.

do you play video games? which ones are your favourites?

Madgamer: poo, huh? a friend of mine once wrote this ridiculously over the top battle midi and named it "poo" because of how.. uh, good it was. and it was pretty decent!

do you like to play sports? which ones?

lefty:

3D platformers > 2D RPGs = 2D platformers > everything else > 3D RPGs

what about 3d RPGs makes them last on your list? I doubt it's the graphics -- the gameplay? the character development?

favourite sports teams?

Football (favorite sport, also)- Colts, most disappointing team I've ever followed, but they're still miles better then the Jim Harbough/ Marshall Faulk days of old.

Baseball- White Sox. The closest thing to a local team in my part of Indiana. Aside from the Cubs, who suck.

Basketball- I hate the NBA in general, so, umm... Indiana University, I guess...

Hockey- The Mighty Ducks. And by the Mighty Ducks, I mean the all-star team from Mighty Ducks 2 (except for the cowboy).

Soccer- United States? Does that count?

3 people I'd like to meet from board 8?

Tweeeked because of his interest in cars and partying. He seems like he could be a gear head type personality like me. Snailien because he's older and laid back. And the last one has to be a three way tie between Sess and LCadwallader and BBallman7. Sess smokes good and I like his attitude so that would be fun. LCad would just be a ****ing trip any which way you cut it no matter what happens. BBall reminds me a helluva lot about my best friend in real life. He plays cards and goes to pool tournaments and even looks like him. I just know me and BBall would click pretty fast, but ,hell, anyone who meets me clicks with me. I'm just that kind of person.... outside of the internet, of course.

3 people I'd like to kick in the face?

I hope you know it's a goddamn honor to be kicked in the face by the greatness that is my ****ing steel toe boot lathered all up with a hearty swabbing of kick ass grease. This is a tough question because I can't think of anyone I hate bad enough to kick in the face, because it would kill and/or mame that person. But since it's such a great honor I guess I'll bestow the honors upon you. Thrice.

what "indie rock" / electronica do you like? cause that's where I'm at, mostly.

Well these two bands are only borderline underground, but Radiohead is maybe my favorite band (Kid A is my favorite album of all-time) and the Flaming Lips is in my top five.

Neutral Milk Hotel has been a favorite band of mine for a while now, especially the songs Oh Comely and Two Headed Boy

I also really like the Decemberists, especially the song Mariners Revenge Song and the Infanta.

Here's a list of some other bands I like a lot and songs I would recommend:

The Postal Service - Nothing Better, Clark Gable
The Faint - Paranoiattack, Agenda Suicide, Worked Up So Sexual
My Morning Jacket - Masterplan, It beats 4 You
Ratatat - Seventeen Years, Germany to Germany
Marvin Pontiac - Small Car, Pancakes
Bright Eyes - Road to Joy, Time Code
Coheed and Cambria - the album Second Stage Turbine Blade
Pixies - Where is My Mind, Caribou
The Unicorns - Ghost Mountain, Child Star
All-Time Quarterback (Ben Ghibbard solo project) - Why I Cry
Air - Electronic Performers, How Does It Make You Feel?
DJ Shadow -Organ Donor, Walkie Talkie
Modest Mouse - All Night Diner, Convienient Parking
The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldier, Level
The String Quartet Tribute Band - anything you like here
The Chemical Bothers - Song to the Siren, Chemical Beats
Thom Yorke - Atoms for Peace, Black Swan
Flogging Molly - Drunken Lullabies, What's Left of the Flag
Peaches - Downtown, **** the Pain Away
Kronos Quartet - soundtrack to Requiem for a Dream
Motion City Soundtrack - Everything is Alright, Attractive Today
Squirrel Nut Zippers - The Ghost of Steven Foster
Muse - Knights of Cydonia, Take A Bow
Wilco - Missunderstood, Monday
The Arcade Fire - Une Annee Sans Lumiere, In The Backseat
Death Cab For Cutie - Someday You Will Be Loved, What Sarah Said
Rilo Kiley - The Frug, Portions for Foxes
Regina Spektor - Consequence of sounds, Aching To Pupate
Andrew Bird - A Nervous Tic Motion Of The Head To The Left, Fake Palindromes
The Strokes - Ask me Anything, On the Other Side, Is this It

The Buzzcocks - Fast Cars, No Reply
Cake -Arco Arena, Comfort Eagle, Italian Leather Sofa

DJ Shadow -Organ Donor, Walkie Talkie

I'm about to dare The Outsider one of these days.. oh joy.

Modest Mouse - All Night Diner, Convienient Parking

I don't know Mouse song titles, but I do enjoy their recent albums. I have Lonesome Crowded West but haven't listened to it yet.

4 - A Hawk and A Hacksaw - the way the wind blows (the drummer from NMH actually, but you'd never know it from the weird music he makes)

windmage: hey sweetums. i miss you - hope you're well! are you feeling better? how's the home life this time? when are you back to school? i'll return to you when that happens!

I'm feeling a lot better, actually. I've been playing FF1DoS and FF5a and I'm about to go watch the Empire Strikes Back. I haven't seen the old trilogy in... probably 15 years, which is sad. I watched Episode IV last night, and I now worship Han Solo's pure sexy. I've also been trying to finish the first Wheel of Time book, which is something I've been trying for about two years now. I got through about ten chapters this afternoon, and I'm about 3/4ths of the way through it now. I go back to school sometime Monday afternoon, I think. I'm going to be watching football and playing FF5a all weekend. <_<

So how are you?

I'd probably go with Delita. Loved the way his character developed. He had believable and interesting motivations for doing what he did, and the way he worked himself up to being king was nothing short of awesome. I do wish he got more screen time towards the end of the game, but he managed to be a great character anyway. I tend to love grey kinda villains, though. Like Jowy. Jowy rocks. And is so dreamy!

(Damn it, windmage, stop working your hypnotic powers on me. :^(.)

This is a glorious day. Although Dekar likes Jowy better than Delita, which is... well, DEKAR LIKES ZEE BISHIES MORE THAN ME! Ha. Siiiilly Dekar. And Delita kind of needed a bit more screentime, but not too much more. I think it worked pretty well as is, letting your imagination deal with what exactly he was up to.

I picked up a game of FF7, which I played about an hour or two of all week. you can see how into it I am.

how's FF1? what's your party? are you enjoying it? you know my opinion of you relies on you answering yes!

(I don't, for the record)

so basically, yeah. what's up?

Well I'm technically, pretty much always online. I do love wrestling like you said, but video games were the first love, so that's one thing. Over the years of my life I've been lucky enough to own at least one of every console and hand held. Yes I own two of some consoles. Be it design or imported. At the same time, being easily pleased in gaming, and the things to play games on, it's lead to a massive library of thousand of games. Whenever I go buy something, friends always say something like "Adding to the inventory?"

There's a love for movies. Not big on comedy at all though. Enjoy an extremely small amount of it. Romantic comedies there's a nice bit of that I enjoy, mainly because of me also enjoying chick flicks. Kevin Smith fan too. There's a couple of other comedies out there I enjoy, but just pointing out that through the love of movies, not every genre gets love. Yeah, big DVD collection too.

Books, comics, and graphic novels are another love. With books, I'll give anything a shot. I do enjoy a lot. Horror, science fiction, the word escapes me at the moment but things along the nature of something like Brave New World. Nice size book collection. Comics, huge thing. I read and collect from everyone out there, meaning publishers. Though I do absolutely hate Superman. Can't ****ing stand him. Graphic novels, same love too.

Music, smallest interest level technically. I love game music, Ayumi Hamasaki, and that is it. I do love some music from Lord of the Rings, but it's also in games so it's a 50/50 thing. Sure, there's bands I like, songs I don't mind, but nothing I care about. Game music and Ayu are the only things in music I care about and love.

I, like everyone else have television shows I love. Get all the seasons of them. Some I sadly do have to download and burn DVDs of, but maybe one day shows that I do that with will be released on DVD. Not really much of a television person.

So general interest areas, there ya go. I suppose, unless there's more you wanna know. Obviously I do other things like shop, and for many various things. Friends. My home being the central place where most hanging out happens, and we get out quite a good bit.

Gonna continue this in the next post.

Am I happy? Sure.

Am I in school? No.

Any plans for the future? Nope. There's things I've thought about giving a shot at and trying to make a career out of, but not a lot of self confidence.

Basically, the only major thing happening in my life is the attempt at letting someone else into the family. See, family with me is selective. My closest friends are my friends and also my family. I will die and kill for them without hesitation. If you're technically in my family and I like you, that's cool, if not, **** off. No real acquaintances. The person I'm working on being friends with is a girl I met at the Wii launch, Jennifer. No, nothing changed. Still don't masturbate, no desire for sex, just want to be friends with her. Plus her being the first person I've wanted to truly make friends with in years, and her being female, a little different for me. Though there was one girl a while back I almost made friends with, but contact just fell through. I'm going to work on getting in touch with her again because of this.

Anyway, there's you some random ****. Follow up on what I said, ask new questions, add questions, or change the subject all together. Whatever you want.

I'm not sure if you realize this... with your "**** ZeldaFAQs" rants last year, do you realize that you're pulling a Heroic Mario in ways not even Heroic Mario could? how do you feel about that? do you care about a certain "image" that you've cultivated here at board 8?

Well I don't think it's pulling that much of an HM, coz while I was furious with Zelda winning everything under the sun, I've always been a fan of the series.

And think about this. You're asking a SEPHIROTH fan on Board 8 if they care about their image. Seriously. =P

hmm, fair enough. is there any game (FFTA aside) that you get flat-out offended if someone says they like it?

FFTA (putting it aside means I only need to say it once, and not 40 billion times) and...

well... let the review speak for itself.

Besides that, I am cool.

what about 3d RPGs makes them last on your list? I doubt it's the graphics -- the gameplay? the character development?

Actually, I really don't know. It's just that I've never found a 3D RPG that I liked.

Oh, what the hell? When I was on the board earlier today I ignored this topic because, for some strange reason that I don't really remember now, I didn't think you'd get back to me for a while. Well, that was dumb, but at least I got in before the close at 500. So, we're doing this question now, huh? Eh, alright.

First off, I'd like to say that I don't think there really is any console that's been leagues above the rest, and can be justifiably called the best system ever without debate. So there's not a unanimously greatest system ever, but there's definitely those that deserve to get more recognition than others.

I've said it before, but my personal favorite console is the N64. So many timeless games in that library, and so many memories playing them. From incredible multiplayer matches in Perfect Dark and Mario Kart 64 to my first time through OoT, I was amazed time and time again by the games. Then there's the platformers; SM64 may have set the standard, but Rare came in and topped that, with gems like Banjo-Kazooie and DK64. Then you've got some 2D gems like Mischief Makers and Kirby: The Crystal Shards. And it was absolutely loaded with underrated gems, like Jet Force Gemini (no lack of Rare love here) and Rocket. And it's easily the best party system ever in my book; I didn't even begin scratching the surface with the two games I mentioned earlier. And with all the overlooked games comes quite a lot of variety, more than you may expect to find on the system. Of course, the library did lack practically the entire genre of RPGs, although Paper Mario and Ogre Battle 64, some of the few RPGs on the system, are both incredible. And it was also lacking with fighting games, and a bit on racing.

The PS1 pretty much rivals the N64, with a fantastic library of it's own, although it's quite different. I guess I'm the type of person who prefers party games, and I've mentioned that I'm not a big RPG fan, but I have a group of 3 friends who are pretty much the opposite of this. The PlayStation is their favorite system ever, and I can see why. From the Final Fantasy games to Xenogears to Parasite Eve to Chrono Cross, and plenty more, it definitely has one of the best libraries for RPGs, just like its successor. But it's got plenty more, with original franchises like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro to Gran Turismo and Tekken, and then some masterpieces from franchises that had already been established, like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and the groundbreaking Metal Gear Solid. No lack of variety there. And then there's the fact that the library is huge, loaded with excellent, yet overlooked games everywhere, akin to the 64. I'd put both of these systems above their successors.

And of course, the SNES is a must-mention in any best console ever discussion. It certainly had an astounding library with plenty of fantastic games, and is still my favorite platformer console out there. But for me, the N64 was still a bit better; the general consensus may say otherwise though. But I can't really make an inequality out of the PS1, SNES, and N64; it's going to come down to preference with the games available, as usual. And with that, I'm out. Yeah, I half-assed the SNES section, but I've analyzed enough into this issue already!

Be satisfied, and keep the questions coming. Feel free to talk about your personal favorite console too. >_>

Repus: ahh, so Super Destroy is your next "main"? cool, I like that better than your current one, it seems so.. I don't know, alt-like I guess.

what do you think about DEATHMATCH being closed down for disruptive posting, despite us not using alts to bypass the flooding rule? fair or no?

It's bull, but then again I can understand why they can get away with it. Posting without adding something relevant, even if it's relevant to the topic at hand, isn't allowed on any board besides RI because of it's leniency on Disruptive. Also, besides the one time, I never got to experience DEATHMATCH in it's glory days. By the time I had returned with broadband FFD had already been axed and Josh and RX7 might have been too.

dunno if I'd call Warioware the best thing since 1994.
I wouldn't call it the best thing since '94 (Metroid Prime is better), but the most unique and wonderful new concept by Nintendo, by far. (Although I, unlike many, love the Pikmin series)

multitasking is what I always do and sitting there concentrating on 'sweeper is too much for moi.
I only play Minesweeper when I listen to music. I can't just sit around listening to music; I have to have something going on as well.

hmm.. do you enjoy jpop? what's your favourite style of music for rhythm games?
J-Pop is kinda crappy; I'm not too fond of it most of the time.
I like eurobeat a lot, it's very cheesy and the lyrics mostly suck, but it makes for great catchy dance music.
And Goa and Psychedelic Trance are probably the sweetest genres of music ever. (moreso Goa)

"icon: name some popular bands that are guilty pleasures!"

Not a question, but eh.

Hmm. Guilty pleasures. That implies that I feel bad listening to Fergie while workin' on mah fitnis, but I don't. I guess that... uh... Ciara, or whatever her name is, is a bit of a GP. Love that "1-2 Step" song.
