You know, this topic makes me think. In our society, there's no question that pedophilia is disgusting and harmful to the child... but perhaps, in some way, that's because it's considered so. Er, let me try and explain where I'm coming from. There's a tribe in Africa whose name is eluding me at the moment but I'm pretty sure starts with "Ma." Their custom is such that in their culture, a boy cannot be considered a man until he recieves an offering of semen from an older male in the tribe. It's certainly what we Westerners would consider an act of sexual contact between a child and an adult man... but in the context of that culture, I don't know if you could call it harmful. It's something to take pride in there, not a source of shame, not a relationship between a victim and an opressor. In much the same way, in ancient Greek culture, young men were encouraged to have sexual relationships with older men, as young women were encouraged to do with older women, as a sort of introduction to the world of adulthood. Those relationships weren't harmful because they weren't done in a context that would make them harmful. This is, of course, just getting to the whole "objective morality" thing. You know, "Is Rape A Sin in Andromeda?" sort of thing. It's also moot when related to the subject at hand, because in the modern Western world, a sexual relationship between child and adult isn't about coming of age, it isn't a thing of pride--it IS a relationship between victim and victimizer, it is harmful, and it's a horrible, disgusting thing. --- Jayne [Shadow Syndicate]: Level 60 Troll Mage, Mug'Thol Level 3X Gnome Warrior, Skullcrusher |

I also would like to know why people are acting like sting operations
are new? Cops have been posing as drug dealers and hookers for decades
to arrest unsuspecting buyers. People wear wires to get incriminating
evidence. Entrapment is a lot of what police do. Next people will be
whining that getting pulled over for speeding is illegal because the
cop didn't let you know ahead of time that he'd be waiting over the
blind hill or behind the overpass. The show host is a douche and the
show in general is obnoxious, but there's nothing wrong with doing what
they are doing as long as they perform due diligence to make sure the

I have two problems with this story. I haven't made up my mind yet, but
they are making me lean towards fake. First, if Mike set this up,
wouldn't the cops be after him for soliciting the girl in the first
place? In our society, there's no question that pedophilia is disgusting
and harmful to the child... but perhaps, in some way, that's because
it's considered so. You have a fairly valid argument in some sense but it's completely wrong for the simple fact that adults may think its wrong for rational reasons, but children, especially young children who don't understand sex inherently know that these things shouldn't be happening. I'm not talking teens, but young children, 5-8ish range. They don't know what sex is, and they don't know what there genitalia is for other than thats where pee comes out of. But all of them are extremely traumatized when they are abused. When they are being molested they know it shouldn't be happening even if they don't know why so you can't say that they are taught that it's wrong. --- No books, I can't read. I'm not a loser. |

According to your story you were let loose within 2 hours. That
seems like an awfully short time to be sent to trial, be tried, and
found not guilty. I could be wrong but what I think he said was that he was found not guilty in 2 hours. It's entirely possible that what he meant was that the jury deliberated, if there was a jury, or that the judge deliberated for two hours, not that the entire process took 2 hours. i could be wrong but that's what I took him to mean. --- No books, I can't read. Notice how there was a turn around and faint in his story. Notice how
