#14: 1-1 - uh, it's fine for a trial case, I suppose, but the fact that I didn't even remember the victim's name says it all - Phoenix really sucks as a lawyer in 1-1, like he's not the best lawyer in general but in 1-1 it's flat-out laughable, darn you trial cases - I liked the 9 hours difference thing, that's about the only thing I really remember from this case - woo Mia --- xyzzy http://ds.ign.com/articles/834/834194p1.html |

#12: 2-3 - I'm actually surprised this case gets so much venom spewed at it. I thought I'd be the exception because it's LOL FUNNY and I usually don't get the forced humour in PW. - but this thing's got *tons* of flaws. for starters, the defendant is, in my opinion, pretty unlikable, and as I said before, I wouldn't have minded losing this case because of him. - then there's the cast, which is one-dimensional at its finest. I don't mind one-dimensional, but all of their quirks sucked. - the murder is utterly ludicrous and full of so many bizarre unplanned coincidences that it really detracts from the storyline - the murderer doesn't fit the bill of a murderer at *all*, and even though I like him, I wish it was someone else - plus there's Fran whipping the crap out of you left and right, it's just not a very fun case, I can't think of a single part of this case that I really enjoyed --- xyzzy http://ds.ign.com/articles/834/834194p1.html |

#11: 3-2 - everyone seems to love or hate this thing. I give it credit for being unique, but little itty bitty things that I have trouble describing annoy the hell out of me in this case. - for starters, it just feels so bare-bones. there's Ron, Atmey, and... that's pretty much the entire cast. there's a couple scenes with Dessie, a Larry and Adrian cameo, and.. uh, Gumshoe? as far as plausible villains, there's only Atmey. - the "two crimes at the same time" had already been done in 1-5, and even though 1-5 was written after 3-2, 1-5 being done a hell of a lot better cheapens my reaction to 3-2. - my big problem with the case is Atmey, though. it's not that I dislike him -- okay, I kinda do -- it's that he just gives up. there's no resistance provided at *all* the first time, and then when you finish him off, you don't even provide evidence. he just goes into his little laughing spree and it's over. - I also don't like the storyline all that much. even good characters -- Adrian, Pearl, even Larry -- are well below their usual standards. - best part of 3-2: already said it, judge's brother represent oh ho ho top 10 tomorrow --- xyzzy http://ds.ign.com/articles/834/834194p1.html |

#10: 3-1 - easily the most interesting of the tutorial cases. easily the most involved of the tutorial cases. and easily the most significant of the tutorial cases. - really, it's a shame they decided to make this a tutorial case. for a case that ties in so heavily to the final two cases of the game, it's short, not really all that involved and fairly simple. Dahlia deserved more than this. - my biggest gripe with 3-1 is Mia. she's so.. confused and lost because it's a tutorial case, and her performance in her first case (3-4) is far, far better. when you go back and play 3-1 after finishing 3-4, it's damn obvious and really disappointing. - best part of 3-1: Payne. for once, he's a pretty damn good opponent who kicks Mia around harder than even Edgeworth could. - again, what the hell is up with Phoenix here? thank god he transformed from "Feenie" to "Phoenix goddamn Wright". - uhhh Grossberg you can stop talking about your ass at any time --- xyzzy http://ds.ign.com/articles/834/834194p1.html |

#9: 1-2 - argh, so many flaws in this case. April May and Redd White are the two huge flaws, as is Mia inventing evidence out of nowhere. I still can't get over the single hugest plot twist in PW history being committed by a guy who uses words like Ridiculosity. - there's some good stuff here though. the introduction of the most infamous case in PW history, DL-6. the introduction of Maya. nailing Redd White is fairly satisfying, even if he's a tool. plus, it's really short and kind of fun to replay because it doesn't waste time with long investigations. --- xyzzy http://ds.ign.com/articles/834/834194p1.html |
transience | Posted 11/21/2007 12:56:26 AM | message detail | #294 |
#8: 3-3 - a fairly flawed case, but it has a lot of redeeming qualities. - first, the cons. the beginning is boring. I can't stand Tres Bien's music. there is way too much Jean Armstrong. I can't stand how you have to move three and four screens in order to get where you want to go. I got stuck hitting trigger points in 3-3 more than any other case. - those are just small-time, though -- the biggest flaw of 3-3 is that its first trial date is almost completely useless. usually, you'd get some big revelation at the end of the first trial date, but 3-3's is just.. blahh. - but then there's the good stuff. for starters, Viola: an entertaining witness in a great investigation area (Tender Lender). the whole story there is interesting, too. - that's not as good as the day 2 trial, though. Phoenix vs. Tigre pretty much makes case 3-3 - before this started I was down on PW3, but once I got to Tigre I changed my tune. without a great last trial date, this would be down there with the 2-3's of the world. --- xyzzy http://ds.ign.com/articles/834/834194p1.html |
Go 2 | Posted 11/21/2007 12:59:44 AM | message detail | #295 |
i'm gonna throw this out there: within 30 seconds of 3-3 i was already
more into it than 3-2. the idea of a fake phoenix basically ruining his
reputation, and maggey being the one found guilty; all of that was
better than anything in 3-2. i kind of feel like 3-3 might drop in my eyes, like 2-3, upon replay but the first time through i found it very fun and entertaining. --- Naye745 |

I thought Young Edgeworth did a much better job owning Mia than
(relatively) Young Payne. Mia bumbles her way through 3-1, true, but
Payne doesn't really capitalize on it. (He's too busy fantasizing about
Dahlia, I suspect.) On the other hand, pretty much every contradiction
you find in Gumshoe's testimony in 3-4 is a trap laid by Edgeworth or
easily explained by him. He's less dominating during Dahlia's
testimony, but he still puts on a better show than Payne. And I agree that Dahlia deserves better...her cross-examination during 3-1 sucks because it's an easy tutorial case and you don't really hate her yet, Mia does well against her in 3-4, but Terry's suicide erases all of that, and, satisfying as 3-5 is, there's barely any cross-examination there. That's why I don't like her as much as von Karma or Gant...they really bring it all out in the courtroom. --- This message brought to you via RPGuy's Wii. |

#7: 1-3 - forgettable cast sans the defendant (and even he's kinda plain, he just happens to be likable), boring antagonist, a bit too much Oldbag for anyone's tastes. - despite this, I thought the storyline was pretty good: Powers and Hammer's relationship, Hammer and Vasquez, even the minor characters (S4L, the fanboy, Penny) were decent enough and made piecing what actually happened a good time. as long as Oldbag wasn't involved, this was a pretty fun case. - 1-3 is awesome for its standout moments, though. Gumshoe to your rescue in studio 2? aww yeah. Edgeworth face turn? OH YEAH. I absolutely love it when he comes to your aid in the last day of court. it's too bad Vasquez isn't a better antagonist that you just hated, because otherwise this case would be a lot more memorable. --- xyzzy http://ds.ign.com/articles/834/834194p1.html |
