The Ini/Mimi twist was just too predictable too be that great. My first
thought as soon as they mentioned "facial reconstruction surgery" from
the driver license picture was "Ah, she traded place with her sister
and took her place". For most of the reminding parts of the case I just
waited for Phoenix Wright to prove this and it didn't have that big
impact on me. In fact before replaying PW2 it was my least favourite
case in the game (yes, under 2-3 and 2-1). --- Explicit Content, more like Explicit WINtent [cue embarassing silence]... well anyway, EC outsmarted us all including me by winning the Guru contest. |

Yes, DURING the case, you're right. that's exactly
what she was doing. Which is exactly what Edgeworth calls her on in
their airport conversation. After the case, though? Adrian's credit lines about Franziska offering to let her consult her at any time if she needed anything (PW2) and her coming by to teach her how to use a whip (PW3)? It's not huge, but Franziska is making an effort for Adrian on a personal level that she doesn't do for anybody else. Now, whether you see it as guilt over using her, a slowly growing friendship or whatever, there is that bond. --- Jayne [Shadow Syndicate]: Level 60 Troll Mage, Mug'Thol Level 3X Gnome Warrior, Skullcrusher |

yeah, I tend not to think too hard on PW plot and just let it lead me
whereever it wants. Ini/Mimi threw me even when presented with the
choice, simply because it was so out there. the exception is case 3-5 which I thought was really predictable, but that didn't take away from any of it --- xyzzy "Zidane? Man, Zidane's the best part of FF9!" -heroic mario |

The best thing to do is not to think much on the cases. Otherwise
you'll ruin the surprise. That's how Ini Mimi and Godot/murderer
completely hit me out of nowhere. And yes, Von Karma sweating is the best moment in the series. --- I'm sick of hearing life is unfair, I AM! |

The idea of a person having his/her sibling die and then assuming his/her dead sibling's identity in a feeble attempt to start a new life as the other through plastic surgery doesn't strike me as an entirely predictable, run-of-the-mill occurrence. I definitely understand how some people could have figured it out before the case, but there is no way that it was "too predictable." The idea of a person having his/her sibling die and then assuming
his/her dead sibling's identity in a feeble attempt to start a new life
as the other through plastic surgery doesn't strike me as an entirely
predictable, run-of-the-mill occurrence. In real life? Of course not. In the Phoenix Wright world? I have to say, I'm the same in that once I saw the whole facial reconstruction thing, I knew something was up, simply because the PW games don't include major details like that for no reason at all. That's not to say that the twist was easily predictable or anything, I can easily see how most people would be surprised, but pretty much all the games revolve around whacky incidents like that. --- CaptcanadaA |

Ah, a very solid list for the rankings of the cases, transience... nice
to see some 2-2 respect! 3-4 is fantastic, too... just how it fits in
with the story, the atmosphere, the twist, and all that stuff. The only
thing that bugs me is that you failed to address the weaknesses in 1-4.
Take, for example, the investigation portion...most of it is a bore.
2-4 and 3-5 surely have far more interesting investigations, with you
constantly moving forward learning important things, and it's just more
fun and more intense. I'd argue that 1-5 has great investigations, too,
though the fact that you can get stuck easily is detrimental, I'll
admit. --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. So...what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think." |
transience | Posted 12/12/2007 3:28:56 AM | message detail | #479 |
1-4's investigations are fine. if nothing else, there's DL-6, you vs.
Karma, the cool scene with Grossberg, etc. 2-4's first day bugged me,
actually, but now that I know what to do it isn't so bad. its second
day is good of course. I just sucked at trigger-pointing it. sometimes
you nail those things and sometimes it's a drag. I had the worst time with 3-3's trigger points, and I don't even know why. and 1-5's trigger points you already addressed, as they're some of the worst in the series. 3-2 sucks for that stuff too. ranking the investigations of the big cases: 2-4 > 1-4 = 3-5 > 1-5 --- xyzzy "Until you reveal yourself to be even durango-calibur, there's no point in even bringing my Z-game." -semifinal |
Naye745 | Posted 12/12/2007 3:32:38 AM | message detail | #480 |
One thing I think 2-4 has that 1-4 doesn't is balance. From start to
finish, there are a ton of separate awesome moments in 2-4 that occur
outside the courtroom, and aren't just at the end of the last day of
court. 1-4 just has a lot of filler stuff in the trial days, and a lot
of boring examination scenes, that it's not quite as entertaining the
second time around. --- Explicit Content busted my crank and left skid marks on my soul in the Guru Contest. |
transience | Posted 12/12/2007 3:34:14 AM | message detail | #481 |
I agree, 2-4 is better overall in the sense that there's huge things
happening left and right. I prefer the overall atmosphere and plot of
1-4 though, and that last day of 1-4 is untouchable, even by 2-4's
ending. --- xyzzy "Until you reveal yourself to be even durango-calibur, there's no point in even bringing my Z-game." -semifinal |
