I'm kinda shocked at how fast I'm getting through it, too. Is the game really short or something?

Naturally, there will be much said about the End of Disc 1 scene. =P

nah, it isn't XS2. it's not insanely long, but you should get at least 25-30 hours out of it. the dungeons at the end are so ridiculously long that they'll surely add some to your timer.

Switch KOS in for Ziggy and you have my team...I just use KOS cause she is a beast in combat...though I definitely found Jin and MOMO to be more useful...

MOMO's magic gets ridiculous later on...

I use Shion/Jin/KOS, just because they were doing a lot of damage against something in the beginning and I never bothered to change. they all seemed about equal when you take their strengths and weaknesses into consideration.

in battle, that is. I don't really care how much fail a character has when using them.

though I'm rather curious about this "massive evade" you're talking about with MOMO. Voyager didn't kill me, but he certainly hit me hard.

Virgil was the first guy to kill me, I think.

I tend to refuse to use characters I don't like in my parties, so Shion/KOS-MOS/chaos are basically unusable to me.

I get an idea for how beastly KOS-MOS would be, but my party works really well. MOMO kills things with magic, Jin kills things with physicals, and Ziggy chokes *****es and tanks.

MOMO is a dodge machine...and she is the only one who is truely useful at using offensive magic...and she's the best healer too

I dont remember if I ever died...bosses certainly were not as tough as in the first two...but they were enjoyable for the most part...

Her evade wasn't so much massive as Voyager seemed basically incapable of hitting her. I had her equipped with some armor that boosted her evasion, but most randoms and other bosses had no problem hitting her more often than not. Voyager just whiffed pretty much everything.

Ziggy's nice cause he breaks enemies quickly, but otherwise I barely used him. there was something about him I didn't like in battle, maybe his speed. I forget.

and KOS is nice when she gets x-buster -- taking out bunches of URTVs in one shot and getting extra xp/skill points or whatever you get. I need to replay it.

KOS is a better tank than Ziggy and her techs good and she has decent breaks...she doesnt get ripped by magic as much and is decently fast is why I find her superior to Ziggy

Though I like KOS...she just gets dragged down by like five character triangles of crap that the game presents...

Pfft. Those sissy URTVs fell easily enough to Ziggy's Hind or MOMO's Guilty Break (thunder... arrow... thing) for that XP/SP bonus.

And Ziggy actually seems pretty fast in this game, which is a bit odd. Not that it matters as much, since there's no doubleturning in this game.

Ziggy beats her in speed, physical defense, and he has enough an HP advantage over her to make up for lower EDEF.

There are reasons why KOS-MOS might be better than Ziggy, but speed and tankiness are not two of them.

I looked over endgame stats for the two, assuming they go down both their skill branches. Ziggy beats her cleanly in the aforementioned stats.

It's hard to get a good read on speed in-game, anyway, since there seems to be an element of randomness to it.

Day 8

Okay, so were breaking into Labyrinthos to hijack some Vessels of Anima, and those IDs Shion said would make breaking in a cakewalk? They don't even get the party where they need to go. This, after Shion yelled at Miyuki for doing a better job than this earlier in the game. Thanks for all the help, Shion.

MOMO finally gets to meet the "father" who died before she was born. And Mizrahi turned out to be a really cool guy. Not at all like the lunatic they make you think he is in XS1, or the guy fanatically trying to resurrect his daughter like XS2 leads you to believe. He's a guy who has accepted that his daughter is dead and there's nothing he can do about it, but is looking forward what his new "daughter" is going to be like and wants the universe to be a less ****ed up place when she's born into it. This, we know, isn't going to go so well, but that's not his fault (btw it's Shion's fault, more on that later). Probably one of my favorite scenes in the series.

Then the party starts looking for info on one of the consoles, and we get more dumbass Shion scenes.

MOMO: Shion, look!
Shion: Yes, that's my mother's name. She was one of the people cruelly experimented here, betrayed by the one she trusted most. Truly a despicable act. Why, my father is such a --
MOMO: No, stupid, below that. The more glaring name.
Shion: Oh. What? My name?! Jin, explain!
Jin: Err...
Shion: Gawd, you're the same as dad. I hate you! Why did you experiment on mom?!
Jin: No, stop jumping to conclusions.
Shion: Then explain! Now!
Jin: Mmph. I sure hope something convenient shows up to distract you, so I don't have to reveal anything that could cause you severe emotional trauma.
*Shions notices Asura Realians in stasis*
Shion: *gasp* Are those...?
Professor: Yep. Combat Realians.
Shion: WHY ARE THE THINGS THAT KILLED MOM HERE?!
Professor: Since they're not complete yet, I'm going to hazard a guess and say they were developed here.
Shion: But... you're trying to say Kevin killed my mom? Super-fantastic-best-person-who-has-ever-lived Kevin? No way! I'll believe my father and brother are Satan incarnate with little-to-no corroborating evidence, but my ex is completely incapable of any wrong-doing!
Jin: Phew. At least she isn't questioning me anymore...

And to think, she's only going to get worse from here...

I get into my third mech boss battle, and I can already see where the complaint about them taking too long comes from. It just had way too much HP. It's not like mech battles are interesting enough to justify it, either. It... almost KO'd MOMO's mech once or twice when it seemed to randomly chain two/three attacks together, I think. Just really boring. Not much to say.

Afterwards, Shion jumps out of her mech and rushes into the enemy base like an idiot, and gets captured when her loser ex reveals himself to be the Red Testament. While she's trying to comprehend this, a bunch of U-TIC grunts tackle her to the ground.

Shion, mental juggernaut that she is, only now begins to put together that dead people are showing up as Testaments, even though she personally saw Virgil die, and Jr. all but confirmed that the White Testament is Albedo, whom he personally killed. But she still doubts her Kevin could be a Testament, since he's completely incapable of being evil or (despite him building the killing machines she knows will kill her parents in the near future and such). Nice job.

(more coming)

Pellegri: "She's been babbling things to herself and ignoring our questions."

Sounds like Shion to me. Her interrogation doesn't go very well, and, after Febronia warning the rest of your party about Shion being in danger, Shion's dad tries to help her escape.

Suou: I'm going to let you escape.
Shion: OMG I HATE YOU WHY ARE YOU SUCH A JERK?!

Suou: You remember my daughter? She's in a church. Please, save her.
Shion: DO IT YOURSELF I HATE YOU!

Now that's how you talk to someone trying to save you from execution. Looks like I was right about Shion's dad actually being a pretty decent guy, leaking info to the Federation, trying to protect his daughter, helping the ungrateful prisoner...

New boss battle! Pellegri was was a lot better than the previous bosses. Her goons help pile on the break damage, and she hit was strong on both damage and break damage. Still not very durable, but at least she could actually hits things. She even managed to kill Jin with Megiddo Rosarium, followed by some Boost cheese.

Following that, it's time for Virgil to steal the show some more. First Past Virgil, while still very injured, fights off a couple of berserk Realians after they kill Febronia, and then blows himself up with the rest of the Realians with the Realian-destruction code Shion gives him. Then, while Shion is getting all weepy about this, Future Virgil shows up and mocks Shion for giving him the ability to blow himself up. He calls her on her BS some more (which I always enjoy), and then they fight. After the party finishes uselessly flailing at him (stupid Testament plot hax), Febronia's spirit or soul or consciousness shows up, and she has a pretty cool scene with Virgil where he bares his soul a little. Then they actually walk straight out of the plot. They must have heard about Disc 2. Anyway, nice set of scenes, in the running with MOMO meeting Mizrahi for best scene so far in the game.

As for the Virgil battle itself... he was even better than Pellegri. His damage was pretty bad before his ultimate, but he had Seal Tech, which beats the hell out of any statuses the previous bosses threw around, and he uses Overtaker from the get-go, which means he's never running out of Boost for Victim's Hail. Speaking of Victim's Hail, it was easily the most brutal ultimate attack any of these bosses used. Good MT damage + really good MT break damage is mean. If MOMO hadn't had a high enough Break Limit to not be put into break after the first VH, and if Ziggy hadn't had enough HP to tank through the turns following the second VH, I would've had my first reset (incidentally, a couple of random soldiers got me in a back attack shortly after this, and managed to manipulate breaks and boosts until I died <_<). His durability was a bit better than Pellegri's, I guess, but she had support to soak up some damage. He probably would've come off as tankier had MOMO not learned Fire Bolt III a few battles ago. >_>

After chasing lil' Shion around after she runs off like a 'tard, I fight some guys who I remember being way more durable in XS2. Then I receive the least shocking revelation ever: Shion is directly responsible for the impending destruction of humanity. Pretty much anyone could have guessed as much. And, unsurprising, having two Shions there makes things a whole lot worse. It's like mass summoning the Gnosis into the universe x2.

Kevin shows up to explain that this isn't really the past, but is actually a creation of Shion's sub-conscious or something. Which makes sense, considering the disconnect between what we know happened in the past and what the party had done. But the Red Wanker is also here to take Shion with him!

Kevin: Sure, I might have cruelly experimented on a bunch of people, put the lives of countless others in danger, and just made you relive the worst moments of your life, but I love you!
Shion: Oh, Kevin! You're so sweet.
Jin: Shion, I can't let you go with him. He's an arrogant, controlling, genocidal asshat with a god complex. He's also not even human anymore, and he nearly had us killed on numerous occasions. He's killed countless people for completely selfish reasons, and, no, "I did it all for Shion" does not excuse any of it.
Shion: OMIGOD JIN WHY ARE YOU GETTING IN THE WAY OF OUR LOVE?!
*Jr. fires a few shots at Kevin*
Shion: WHY DO NONE OF YOU WANT ME TO BE HAPPY WITH THE LOVE OF MY LIFE I HATE YOU ALL!
Jin: ...right. KOS-MOS, take Shion and get out of here.
*KOS-MOS knocks Shion unconscious*
KOS-MOS: Gotcha.

First time KOS-MOS has been likable in 2.5 games. Figures that it would be when Shion nearly causes me to have an aneurysm with her idiocy.

Thankfully, Mizrahi shows up to have one last scene so that the end of Disc 1 isn't just one huge scene where Shion proves she can manage to be worse than she already was. He resolves to sacrifice the planet to save the universe, halting or at least slowing the flow of Gnosis. Sellers tries to stop him, so Mizrahi shoots him in both his legs! Ha! So that's how Sellers was crippled... There is one thing I'm not clear on, though: Who was it that killed Mizrahi? Is this something that's going to be answered later, or did I just miss something?

Anyhow, Disc 1 as whole... it was kinda bad up until the Miltia arc, but that arc kicked ass. Probably up there with the Cherenkov stuff from XS1 as my favorite story/character stuff. Even with Shion being Shion.

Now for Disc 2, where the true unspeakable horrors supposedly lie...

Day 9/10

Oh man. "Fighting God?" "The object that was said to appear when the Messiah was crucified?" Disc 2's not wasting any time in throwing out the obvious religious references.

"I don't know. I don't understand anything." Perhaps the wisest observation Shion has ever made.

Shion: OMIGOD JIN WHY DIDN'T YOU LET ME LEAVE WITH MY SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME EX-BOYFRINED?! IF I WAS WITH HIM I'D BE HAPPY!
Jin: You cannot be serious.
Shion: "WHAT DO YOU KNOW? YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HIM! I'M GONNA DIE LIKE MOM! ARE YOU SAYING YOU DON'T CARE?!"
Jin: "Don't be stupid. No brother wants to see his sister die."
Shion: IF YOU DON'T WANT ME TO DIE, THEN DON'T TRY TO GET IN THE WAY OUR LOVE! LET ME HOOK UP WITH MY EX! DON'T TAKE ANYTHING ELSE FROM ME, EVEN THOUGH WE JUST GOT DONE ESTABLISHING THAT YOU AND DAD NEVER ACTUALLY DID ANYTHING BAD TO ME!
Jin: "Shion!"
Shion: GET OUT! I HATE YOU!
*Jin starts to leave*
KOS-MOS: Are you sure you should leave?
Jin: I can't take any more of her idiocy right now.
KOS-MOS: Shion's currently even crazier and more stupid than normal right now. Maybe, given enough time, she'll revert back to her relatively tolerable XS1 self.
Jin: Shion's rubbing off on me, so now I'm going to angst for not being able to help her. I still think Kevin is a lamer, but it might actually be a good idea to remove you from Shion. Because I don't want her to die for reasons I cannot fathom. Still, even though you're slowly killing her just by being in her presence, I'm going to leave helping her to you. I'm sure she'll survive *wink*.

More unimportant durango-bait ShionxKOS-MOS scenes. Moving on...

"I might call the Gnosis again, or run off and join the enemy." So Shion is actively looking for ways to be worse? Can't say I'm surprised.

Sellers whines a bit about being nowhere near as good as Mizrahi, before mocking Jr. for not realizing that Yuriev is walking around in Gaignun's body. Then he kinda floats off somewhere and is never heard from again.

Meanwhile...

Yuriev:

im in ur base
stealin ur zohar emulators

He also caps Mary, which is something I've wished someone would do since XS1. He loses point for it not being even close to fatal. Seriously, how bad a shot do you have to be to not even come close to killing someone after shooting them twice at point-blank range? Still, I really like his VA. And he's been pretty cool, so far.

Citrine was a pretty crappy boss fight. Ziggy just got Heartbreaker, so he could break her within three turns. Seal Ether delayed this a little while, but Jin and MOMO ate through that HP once she was broken. Her ultimate is stupid, too. Oh no! Don't set my HP to 666 and then give me a turn to heal before you do 666 damage! Anything buy that! Her other damage was, I dunno, not completely horrible?

No comments on the Citrine scenes since, really, she has, what, three or four scenes total across the series? And she doesn't make an impression in any of them. I can't begin to care about her. Orgulla was more memorable than her.

Last few Yuriev scenes were... bleh. He fears god, so he's going to become god? This is his grand scheme? Bah. What a thing to waste such good voice acting on.

What happened, Margulis? You used to be so in charge in the first two games. Now you're being scolded for not following the orders of a pillar of light who even you think might have his own agenda. What's next, taking orders from losers like Wilhelm? >_>

blah blah blah canaan angst. *yawn*

ES boss battles on Abel's Ark sucked. Only the first one was any good, because it resisted MOMO's ES's new beam weapon, and because I had to charge more often since I didn't have any of the large frame upgrades they drop. After that, none of them proved to be any threat or even last very long. ES combat is so boooring, though.

Yuriev's pre-battle scene was lame. But it's easy to sum up.

Yuriev: I fear God, so I shall become God. You think you can stop me? This is only a fraction of my TRUE POWER!

And then the battle. Well, first the good: He's way more durable than other XS3 human battle bosses. I don't know if it's good defense or good HP, but not having any elemental weaknesses probably helps. He also has a lot of MT stuff, and more break damage than he knows what to do with. He also supposedly has a lot of status tricks, though the only one I saw was Curse, which he cast on Ziggy two rounds before I killed him. And now the bad: He never has any damage. Ever. Not even some kind of scary low HP move. He couldn't even scare MOMO with two of Omega's Infinitum attacks while she was in break status. He's lucky just lucky I was still a battle or two away from learning Blood Dancer with MOMO. But, even then, he'd probably still be better than Voyager!

Yuriev: You haven't beaten me! Fear -> Intelligence -> Evolution! Now, behold that TRUE POWER I just told you about! Just hold on a sec while I glow red and fuse with Omega.

Another boring ES boss follows. This one actually has damage and has what looks like way more HP than the previous ones! Then you remember that you just got Anima Awakening Level 3 and the special attacks that go with it. It dies.

And afterwards...

Yuriev: Hehehe. You can't win. My TRUE POWER is infinite as long as I have Abel and the Zohar!
Jr.: Oh man, now U-DO's gonna destroy the universe or something!
Yuriev: Yes, be afraid! Your fear gives me strength!
Albedo: HAY GUYS REMEMBER I'M IN THIS GAME TOO!
Jr./Shion: Albedo! Why are you here?!
Albedo: To give the yaoi fanbase some material to work with, my beloved Rubedo. But first, I have do some Testament plot hax.
*Albedo removes Abel and the Zohar from Omega, leaving Yuriev to drop right out of it*
Yuriev: Worthless failure! You're still alive? Why must you interfere now?!
Albedo: Quiet, you! I'm talking to the daddy's boy whose body you've hijacked!
Yuriev: What makes you think he can hear you? He hasn't even had any lines since the beginning of the first disc.
Albedo: Neither did I, but look at me now.
Yuriev: Argh! My head!
*Gaignun appears*
Gaignun: Oh god, it's already disc 2, isn't it? Kill me now! It's only going to get worse from here! Quick, before Yuriev takes over again and starts talking about becoming a god again! Hurry!
Jr.: I... I couldn't...
Albedo: Pansy. Real men assist with suicide.
Jr.: No, really, I can't. Semi only ever uses me in ES battles, and he hasn't updated my equipment since the middle of Disc 1. I couldn't hurt anyone even if I wanted to!
Albedo: That didn't stop you from killing me back during XS2. C'mon, it'll probably be a plot fight at worst.
Jr.: No, I...
Albedo: Want me to do it? Testament plot power would make it easy.
Gaignun: Really! Please! Hurry! I heard about the big KOS-MOS/T-elos/chaos revelation! I don't want to be around for that!
Jr.: Gaignun...
Albedo: Yes, yes, this is all very touching. Now make with the killing! Form the link!
Jr.: The link? You mean the major XS1/XS2 plot point that's only been previously brought up in this game by Citrine?
Albedo: Yes! For great AlbedoxJr.xGaignun material!
Jr.: What the hell happened to your Testament plot hax?
Albedo: Not yaoitastic enough. Besides, it's easy! Yuriev is contaminated by U-DO!
Jr. But what about the side effects --
Albedo: I'll send him to another dimension!
*Albedo turns to Yuriev/Gaignun*
Albedo: "Sorry, Nigredo. I'm going to use your body. Once we start the link, go inside Rubedo before you lose your body. I'll take care of the rest." (actual dialogue for the benefit of scarring HM)
Jr.: No, don't leave me again! I'll have to find another albino pet to name after you!
Albedo: Get a lemur this time. Now, begin!
Jr.: 'kay.
*they start the link up, and everything is going smoothly when...*
Albedo: "What are you doing, Nigredo? I demand that you get out of my body!"
Gaignun: "Stop hiding your feelings, Albedo."
Albedo: "Stop it, Nigredo!" (more actual dialogue for HM's benefit)
Gaignun: Ha ha ha! Now your Testament plot hax are mine! For a test of this ability, I will now force Albedo into Jr.'s body and then make Jr. appear on-screen in the nude!
Jr.: What the hell?!
Gaignun: I'm getting the hell out of this game before things get any worse. But I might come back later. Maybe. After the game is over. In fanfiction.

Wilhelm: I'm feeling like doing something out in the open for once.

And the chapter ends with still-shot that I'm sure durango would enjoy.

Whew. That felt rushed. In all of Disc 1, only one major series villain had his plot resolved. In just this one chapter of disc 2, they got rid of three. Four, if you count Citrine, but no one does.

(part three of three)

I also give that whole update two thumbs way up. I laughed quite a bit.

Heh. Thanks for the compliments. I hadn't planned to do something like that for the entire scene, but they just kept giving me more material to work with.
