#6: chaos (Xenosaga) *more Xenosaga spoilers* by the end of Xenosaga 2, chaos was probably my favourite video game character. unfortunately, Xenosaga 3 happened. chaos's entrance into the Xenosaga world is really awesome: http://youtube.com/watch?v=dx4ZrKLewYs (please, skip the first four minutes or something. not even I can excuse Shion.) ever since that awesome entrance (easily the best part of Xenosaga 1), chaos has been Xenosaga's one huge mystery. every once and a while, he'll bust out with some crazy awesome scene, but for the most part he's just a really polite, really nice guy who does everything he can to help people. I love his somber nature and voice, too. I just have a thing for depressed, mysterious characters I guess. chaos isn't really depressed and whiny though, just.. otherworldly. I love that. too bad he's total fangirl bait with that awful choice of attire. what the hell is up with the hot pants? the end of Xenosaga 2 is probably my favourite part of the series too, with Wilhelm and chaos facing off like that. that, along with Communication Breakdown, is pretty much as good as it gets. it seemed like chaos was finally about to show his real self, and I was so hyped for Xenosaga 3 because of it. whoops. chaos going from untapped potential to space jesus is one of the most depressing things about Xenosaga 3. he's still cool in 3, but it's just a huge letdown. come on, space jesus? augh. oh well. I won't let it ruin what I thought was a completely awesome character through the first two games.. but it's really disappointing. even with that, he's still #6, so yay chaos. --- zizzy *hopes for a Game Contest announcement* |

I've never been subjected to Hamlet. Sounds like the sort of thing I'd hate, though. Aside from being infinitely inferior to Merchant of Venice (and Macbeth to a lesser extent), Hamlet's only worth reading for Claudius, the only character given a shred of personality (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern ;_; ). --- DNEA |

#5 - Ken Masters (Street Fighter II) QCF + P QCB + K F, D, DF + P with the immense amount of SF2T I played in the early-mid 90's, it'd be an absolute sin if I didn't include Ken. #4: Joachim Valentine (Shadow Hearts 2) everything is a "cliche" these days. badass, damsel in distress, rude hero, idealist.. you can pretty much categorize any fictional character -- well, video game character, anyway -- to some broad term that describes their personality. then there's Joachim. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Jj1yrvVCuow Joachim is a.. shape-shifting vampire homosexual superhero. yeah, no exaggeration. he's clearly a joke character, yeah, but it's the way he goes about everything that makes me love him. no one makes me laugh more than Joachim. it's the voice - that over-the-top superhero voice just kills me every single time I hear it. he's incredibly stupid, in an awesome way. as Geppetto says, he has a room-temperature IQ. the way he overexaggerates everything he does is awesome. his in-game run is so ridiculous. the way he picks up random huge blunt objects and uses them is battle is equal parts hilarious and awesome. then, of course, there's the man festival. http://youtube.com/watch?v=cZsHIAoTgZM there's the clincher. god, Joachim is so awesome. if you haven't played SH2, do so. now. --- zizzy *hopes for a Game Contest announcement* |

#3: Id (Xenogears) *Xenogears spoilers* Id's not much of a character personality-wise. his lines basically consist of "yo, ima mess you up." and then he does. but man, Id is badass. http://youtube.com/watch?v=BJ2NQQ2nWrI my favourite scene in Xenogears, right there. "Dropping a warship on me is cheating. Take it back!" this is after he rips a giant robot in two with one punch and then rams his damn head into the sand. seriously, everything involving Id is just that awesome. I guess this is how some people feel about Sephiroth.. for me, it's Id. then there's Zeboim, which is my favourite RPG boss fight in any game. it doesn't hurt that Id's theme, the one who is torn apart, is my favourite piece of video game music ever. I just love everything surrounding Id there. he's one of the harder bosses in an easy game, too! not impossible, but at least he can mess you up a little. anyway, I just love this guy. --- zizzy *hopes for a Game Contest announcement* |

#2: Yuri Hyuga (Shadow Hearts) Yuri is the rare combination of style and substance. he's got a lot of depth to him, mostly because the SH series is all Yuri all the time. everyone else is just along for the ride. Yuri's got all kinds of contradictions going on - he's far from your typical hero, but he'll do whatever it takes to save the world or whatever. he's definitely not a lover's boy, but his relationship with Alice is very caring and affectionate. he's emotional as hell, but still has a good head on his shoulders. he's sometimes funny and sometimes serious. he's pretty much the total package. then, of course, there's his actions. this is one badass dude. Yuri's list of ownages reads like his nickname -- Godslayer. SH1's opening, the "Icaro" scene on the train where he lands a fist of doom, the way he busts Wugui, the end of Asia, the graveyard scenes atop Blue Castle, Atman, pretty much any exchange with Simon, SH2's intro, Domremy, all over the place in Russia, Amon/Rasputin, most of the stuff involving Nicolai on CD2, Ishirmura, The Miracle, and, of course, SH2's good ending. such an awesome, awesome scene there. #1: Hammer (Xenogears) *Xenogears spoilers* I don't think I've ever found a character as endearing as Hammer. he's not "cool" or "badass" or even "deep", but I feel for the guy more than anybody else for some reason. maybe it's the way he gives everyone a personal nickname - "bro", "doc", "champ", "Miss Elly", etc. maybe it's how he works hard as hell for seemingly no reason. maybe it's the way he comes off as mortal and human, despite the fact that he's some weirdass rat thing. maybe it's his awesome MAD SKILLZ quote, which is one of my favourite moments of the game. I dunno. but man, I just love this dude. I even enjoy Kislev because of him. then there's his heel turn. man, what a turn. you have to feel for Hammer. he has nothing, nowhere to fit in, no real friends, nothing, and goes to get something in the most desperate way possible. he's still a good dude, he just doesn't know what to do. then there's his boss fight, one of the most awkward and painful scenes I can think of. and for, oh, two minutes, Hammer's just there kicking my ass with all kinds of crazy attacks. and it's awesome. then of course he overheats and just kinda blows up. he's all deformed and messed up, but still retains that personality that makes me love the dude. he's just.. a character I actually care for. screw Aeris, Hammer's where it's at. --- zizzy *hopes for a Game Contest announcement* |

It's just that I don't recall you ever saying a THING about liking
Hammer, let alone him being your favorite video game character of all
time! He's okay.... I guess.... He's quite low on the Xenogears chain
