despite my love of lists, I've never actually done one of these topics.
I don't have the most diverse taste in the world, but I might have some
older games most people here haven't played. I also hate it when people spend months completing their lists, so I'm gonna fly through this sucker. I won't do Heroic Mario-esque writeups since, well, I'm not that good of a writer. eh, it's fine as long as you're actually making progress on it. some
people (WHAT'S UP FUNK) just abandon their stuff after a few games are

The long writeups generally just read like a standard sized review anyway. Nice and short ones are much better imo. --- hay guyz iv ben havng tuff times lately so be niec to me lol : ) |

#50: Tecmo Bowl System: NES Developer: Tecmo Game Rankings Score: n/a Tecmo Bowl is great because it's so damn simple. there's four plays for each team and a game is over within six game minutes. I love simple gameplay when it comes to sports games and Tecmo Bowl delivers for sure. Tecmo Bowl isn't a game I can play all the time since there's not much to it, but I've been going back to it for 15 years now and can always have fun crushing someone 63-0. I'm pretty much unbeatable with the Bears. aw yeah, Mike Singletary. aw yeah, Walter Payton. aw yeah, Willie Gault. oh, and Tecmo Super Bowl would probably be here in Tecmo Bowl's place, but I never owned it, only rented it once or twice and never really got into emulating it. Despite knowing that more people are likelier to read shorter write-ups
(and that most folks probably prefer them), there's no way I'd be able
to limit myself to writing that little if I were to do one of these
topics. So yeah, the top ten would probably be HM-sized (or longer, if
he wants a challenge!), though I'd only briefly touch on the first

#49: Pokemon Pearl System: DS Year: 2007 Developer: Nintendo Game Rankings Score: 84.5% Pearl was my first (and only) Pokemon game. I really enjoy the battling aspect of the game -- it's like a massive version of rock-paper-scissors and it's pretty deep. there's a lot of planning and strategy involved, but you can still play it casually and enjoy yourself. Pokemon is fairly easy and you could just outlevel the game if you were having any trouble, which I think is a good thing. it's one of the more addicting games I've ever played and you could spend hundreds if not thousands of hours micromanaging your characters. on the other hand, everything not involving battling pretty much blows. I don't care about competing in fashion contests, about saving the world or about roleplaying as some child going on an adventure. I really don't care about the story at all and I can't stand tracking down trigger points in towns. the game also plays kind of slow - it just seems like everything could be done a second or two faster, and with a game that's so combat-intensive it really adds up. I find myself getting frustrated the whole time I'm playing even though I won't stop for several hours. you'd think competitive battling would be perfect for me since battles are by far the most appealing part of the game for me, but I'm just too casual a player to do that stuff. I don't know what's weak against what off the top of my head, I don't know a good pokemon from a bad pokemon and I don't look up things on serebii.net or whatever other Pokemon resources are out there. I don't even know what natures are or what attacks are physical/special. I just enjoy myself playing through it. Thinking about making either Pearl or Diamond my first Pokemon game
since RBY. With my friend's recent purchase and continuous bantering

Pokemon seems like the kind of game that is great to play with friends
if you have ones that like the games. I don't think it would be as fun
online because people would rock my face. like I said, I'm mega-casual
and just do whatever without knowing what's good and what's not. plus,
I just don't like interacting online when it comes to games. the entire
fun of multiplayer games is to hang out with a friend and play games. I
don't feel that way about online. #47: Chrono Cross Year: 2000 System: ps1 Developer: Square Game Rankings Score: 92.6% I remember when CC came out. a friend of mine was so obsessed with it that she sent me the Japanese copy of the game despite the fact that I'd never read Japanese in my life. another two friends of mine both claimed it was the best game ever, and it looked positively incredible. when it came out in English, I beat it within a few days, then beat it three or four more times within two weeks to get all the characters and endings. it had an interesting story, a badass soundtrack and a good atmosphere. I probably would have put it in my top 10 games if I made such a list in 2000. so why has it slipped? well, the gameplay is the major reason. I don't like equipping/using elements at all, the light/medium/strong attack system is rather slow and I don't care for random encounters where you don't get experience. it feels rather useless to fight enemies and not level up. the fact that you have a limited number of elements you can use also kinda sucks. overall, the entire gameplay/battle system just wasn't a very good idea. you can enjoy Chrono Cross for the atmosphere and story, but the battle system certainly has some flaws. but despite this rather large flaw, CC is an enjoyable play. Miguel's fight is one of my favourite boss fights ever and I enjoy a lot of the plot, even if it is convoluted as hell. it's just not a very fun game to replay once you've gotten everything. new game plus also spoils me. fast-forward is so damn awesome! too bad the game is so nerfed if you play it that way. so it's either fast, pathetically simple fights or slow, challenging ones. both options suck! --- i do not violation any rules "I'm abusing my powers and locking this stupid topic." - Kaas |
