I use the auto option with elements because I just hate customizing
those suckers. and since you can't level regularly, you kinda have to
use what you're given, which is what sucks about it. --- i do not violation any rules "I'm abusing my powers and locking this stupid topic." - Kaas |

On the other hand, that means that you have to have a good strategy when you are up against the difficult bosses. agreed, but boss fights can get really tedious because you just keep doing the same things over and over and over until it dies (or you run out of elements!) I agree that CC has strategy involved, but not always the good kind. if you've got a boring boss that takes a long time to kill, it's not so good. --- i do not violation any rules "I'm abusing my powers and locking this stupid topic." - Kaas |

I did indeed put it on easy. it's just counterintuitive for me not to
kill everyone -- it's like I can throw a guy and then get away from him
and no one will chase after me. if I just got owned I'd go search for
the jackass who did it to me! so yeah, I have a really hard time navigating because it's just not something I'm used to. --- i do not violation any rules "I'm abusing my powers and locking this stupid topic." - Kaas |

honestly, I'm surprised the game is so popular with a learning curve
like that.. it seems like it's just begging you to stop playing because
you're just left there without really knowing what to do. (maybe an
instruction manual would help? :)) I guess that's a testament to the
game or something. --- i do not violation any rules "I'm abusing my powers and locking this stupid topic." - Kaas |

Heh, I remember the Twin Snakes version being really vague about that
part ("It should be on the back of the package!") and looking all over
for some sort of package. Then I remembered "Hey! Wasn't there a Codec
sequence with Meryl on the back of the case?" ...I felt like I had cheated. --- "I never felt truly alive until I was staring death in the face." "I'll die...after I kill you." |

anyway! 46 - Arkanoid Year: 1986 System: Arcade / NES Developer: Taito Game Rankings Score: n/a I always found it interesting that pong games essentially stopped being by the time Arkanoid came out. it's like other developers said "well, crap. they nailed it. let's make something else." Arkanoid is just one of those games I go back to every once in a while, enjoy a lot, die a ton and persevere until I finally beat it. I wish I still had my paddle controller. oh, and laser > catch > expand > slow > that thing where your ball splits into three that i don't know the name of offhand --- i do not violation any rules "I'm abusing my powers and locking this stupid topic." - Kaas |

#45: Dragon's Lair Year: 1983 System: Arcade Developer: Don Bluth Game Rankings Score: n/a I think Dragon's Lair might be one of those games that you had to be there to appreciate how amazing it was visually. I remember the first time I saw it as a kid and I just had to play it. I like DL's pathetically simple gameplay. timed button pressing barely even qualifies as gameplay, but I love the goofy action scenes and the awkward Dirk the Daring. I never remember exactly what to do in each room either, so when I go back to the game I spend a couple of hours re-learning the game. playing the game brings me back every time, and it always brings a big smile to my face whenever I get to a room that I had just about forgotten. #44: Super Mario World Year: 1991 System: SNES Developer: Nintendo Mario World is my favourite Mario title. I love the world map and the nonlinearity that it provides. the cape is awesome and so is Yoshi. I like the star world area, the switch blocks, and all the special world. I like the forest of illusion levels, ghost houses and the fact that it keeps track of your exits so you can be all completionist and try to get all 96*. I like the difficulty level - not incredibly difficult, but enough so that the end levels are intense and interesting. I pretty much like everything about Mario World. the only reason Mario World isn't higher is because there's nothing that I love about it, and because I'm not much of a fan for pure platformers. I tend to like nonlinear ones more than level-based ones. but as far as pure platformers go, Mario World's about as good as it gets. --- i do not violation any rules "I'm abusing my powers and locking this stupid topic." - Kaas |
