#8: F-Zero GX Year: 2003 System: Gamecube Developer: Nintendo / Sonic Team how good is f-zero gx? well, its speed is so awesome that I can no longer play Super Mario Kart. I used to love that game - it was a great game to play multiplayer and I have very fond memories of trash talking with my big brother while blasting each other with red shells. but mario kart feels so pathetically slow in comparison to GX that I can pretty much never play it again. it takes a special game to completely ruin a game I used to love. I believe that GX is the most flawless game I've ever played. there's just nothing wrong with it. it's incredibly fast, so fast that I actually time my blinking on straightaways. the funny part is that I do it subconsciously and don't even realize it unless I stop playing for an extended period of time and my eyes start hurting. the control is incredibly tight and is only problematic at super-high speeds -- which makes sense. I love pulling 180s at 2000 km/h and being able to pull it off on a damn dime. that's just incredible. GX has some really amazing courses and there isn't a single one that I dislike. I absolutely love the environments. the music is pretty lame, but does its job of making you want to drive fast. time trial is ridiculously fun, and versus mode keeps a real-time count of how far ahead or behind you are down to the thousandth of a second. that's just amazing given what it has to process. GX is really difficult and can be frustrating, but I don't mind because the game is so fun to play. story mode level 7 was created by a sick, sick man though. I am merely good at GX, but it's still fun to try and beat staff ghosts in time trial. playing GP on master is really amazing too. story mode can be fun as long as you're not doing the evil level 7. I love the level designs there, too, and wish you could play them in time trial. level 8 is such an awesome level and would be so much fun with 30 guys on the course. I guess the only flaw I can come up with is that the game is so incredibly detailed that multiplayer is subpar. you just can't split the screen. I was really, really excited about the idea of F-Zero online on the Wii, but I can't imagine playing it with the Wii Remote. I love the control of GX and the GC controller is really perfect for the game. no analog stick instantly turns me off, and it drives me nuts because a new F-Zero would instantly be my most anticipated title of the next generation otherwise, and maybe my most anticipated game of all time. 30-player GP with random people all around the world? time trial against top-notch players where you don't have to split the screen? god, the possibilities are endless and every one of them makes me squeal in anticipation. too bad the Wii has the Wii Remote and friend codes. :( --- i do not violation any rules "I'm abusing my powers and locking this stupid topic." - Kaas |

So, there I was playing Emerald Cup on Master. Through the first four
tracks, I was in 3rd, I think. Not too far behind, but I needed a
pretty good showing in Ordeal to take first. Things started badly for
me, and they continued to get worse as the track progressed. I don't
know why, but the Super Arrow simply wasn't controlling his Pretty
Crest as well as I would like him to. Maybe it was my fault, but I
blame that bird. Anyway, the I'm nearing the final stretch of THE FINAL
LAP! of Ordeal, where the track narrows, you know? And I'm in 15th, or
something similar. I'm boosting like mad, extremely dry on energy, when
another racer slams full speed into me, and sends me flying off the
course. Dammit, I think, and I'm pretty sure that I hadn't even reached
the first m before I hear the announcer say “All right! Second place!”
As it turns out, the car that hit me propelled me forward so fast that
I crossed the finish line (a bit to the right, and below it by a fair
margin) a few ten-thousandths of a second before the game ruled me out
of bounds, and it hit me with such speed that I quite literally
rocketed from the mid teens to 2nd. I won the cup. --- Mustache...and green... http://www.rit.edu/~zmb0386/Top100.pdf |

the seat moves? oh that sounds like fun. that's the thing about

From trannyscience #14: Final Fantasy X I agree with the ability system being the best in the series, but I'd put XII's battle system slightly above X's just because of the lack of random battles. Having XII's battle system for normal enemies and X's for boss battles would be my idea of a perfect FF battle system. To me, the flaw of the voice acting aren't the voice actors themselves but the fact that almost all the lines are incredibly cliched. "Everything changed"? Check! "Not until the end...always"? Check! It also really bothers me how the characters have to swing their arms around when they're talking - it looks so stupid. --- In life you have to do a lot of things you don't ****ing want to do. Many times, that's what the **** life is... one vile ****ing task after another. - Al Swearengen |
transcience | Posted 5/18/2007 4:22:20 AM | message detail | #195 |
yeah, everything is so over-acted in FF10. like when Tidus goes and
takes this one guy's binoculars or something, and he goes and wrestles
it away from him out of nowhere. I'm like "dude, that ain't right. if
you did that to me, you'd get busted in the face." XII's battle system, if you ask me, isn't that good. there may not be randoms, but there are random enemies everywhere and they never go away. in that sense, it is no different. I also feel incredibly passive when playing the game. basically, I don't feel like I'm in control for some reason, and I can't figure out why. FF12 is an all right game, but I'd probably put it seventh or eighth amongst my favourite FF titles and I don't think I'll ever care enough to play it again. --- xyzzy |

btw, one more reason Ace Attorney is better than Justice For All: the music. --- In life you have to do a lot of things you don't ****ing want to do. Many times, that's what the **** life is... one vile ****ing task after another. - Al Swearengen |

Oh god, I just felt some F-Zero GX love radiating from this topic, now I'm posting here. Lucky! Good list, one thing looks odd on it though... I never expected you to like Fusion. XII's battle system, if you ask me, isn't that good. there may not
be randoms, but there are random enemies everywhere and they never go

I do like the fact that there's no load time for battles, and I like not having to keep choosing "attack", but aside from that there's a lot of room for improvement. It still makes you fight a TON. I want an RPG where the only battles you fight are boss battles or meaningful to the story. --- "Kaxon is a joke account!" - MoogleKupo141 "Kaxon = Kleenex = _kro" - Redtooth |
