44. Mega Mana Board 8's best conglomeration of random pop culture references and sugar overloads. Mega Mana is like a combination of Donovan McNabb's mom and Freakazoid - he's a sweet, good-hearted boy with a propensity for randomness and talking in bold and quoting obscure TV shows (see one of many topics where the content is essentially nothing but capitalized and bolded LOST quotes). If you're in on the jokes, they're funny; if you're not, you can still sit on the sidelines and laugh. This year Megs tried his hand at the massive 4096-character contest, which fell through, but he was still a good presence on the board, lending hands to newcomers like satai and wavedash and being the social little butterfly he is. 43. BBallman7 One of the only times you'll ever see the word "3-way" mentioned simultaneously with a Board 8er. BBall fits into that category of relative noob who wants to climb that EVER-IMPORTANT BOARD HIERARCHY LADDER, but unlike others, BBall actually worked up the rungs this year! There was never a shortage of interesting contests from BBall, despite their relative turnout; notable of these was that one contest where you'd vote against people, which was insanely popular and burned through like fifteen 500 topics. He also did three-way user battles and a bunch of other pretty cool ideas as well. Definitely an underrated user with a lot to offer. --- This was Ed Bellis. 42. Draco1214 Still probably refuses to believe the universe ended. If there's one stats guy that never gets, like, any recognition of any kind, it's Draco, always one of the most sensible and level-headed guys out there. This year especially Draco was very quick to mention his own picks and discuss the logic behind them, and while he was wrong on many a case (Phoenix/Gordon being a notable one) he still, at least, handled himself well and never talked condescendingly to people, which is something the stats crew gets a bad rap for (rightfully so much of the time as well). One more before New Year's event! 41. BIGPUN1999 Big noses > big chins, Punz0rz!!!seven PUN is one of those users who you know is a laid-back, average joe in real life. He's one of the most easygoing (easiest-going?) people here too. PUN started off the Best Looking User contest this year (which PukeInMyPot took over), but his best moments on B8 are always when he posts stories about him and his friends dicking around - his Halloween topic for example, or another on drinking escapades. Kay folks, happy new year! Here comes the "and more" part - Ed presents The Top 10 Topics of the Year! HOORAY! As with users, bear in mind that I can't be everywhere and see everything, so this is all from my experience. I've tried to approximate titles as best I can. With that in mind, let's begin! 10. "o_0 at Inviso’s pic," by Do not even ask. The best bit of drama to come out of this year by far happened early on, when DNEA got ahold of Inviso's Myspace account, with photo attached. The topic exploded at first because of that whole "OMG GIRL" (and also OMG INVISO, since she's very private about what she looks like and such) thing, but then it got even more... interesting once Robazoid discovered that 'viso's picture was actually that of a famous model - not of her. The topic just became ridiculous, from durango being even more creepy and pathetic than normal to Vlado steadfastly defending Inviso to Inviso herself sheepishly admitting the truth months later. Still the best "drama" to happen in 2006. 9. "Nintendo and Kraft Foods team up to create new brand of drink-mix," by Brakmaster (?) I love puns, and this topic was easily the best damn repository of silly Photoshoppage this side of Something Awful. Essentially, Brak, Adom and lcad (and possibly a few others) made various Pokemon-related "products" by combining their names with the real-life objects. My description doesn't do it justice; I think one of them has a bunch of them saved, so ask! You won't be disappointed. Silly and preposterous. 8. “My foray into the world of Mega Man," by Karma Hunter Playthrough topics are difficult to maintain, but there's normally an audience if you can pull it off well, which KH definitely did here. The topic chronicled Karma's adventures through Mega Man (Men?) 1-6 and featured such legendary moments as Karma discovering that he could use the abilities of the bosses he'd defeated! Karma realizing he was able to charge Atomic Fire! BLARGH TYGERS! And so on. One of the best playthrough topics of the year, engaging and a great time. 7."Silvercross: Life as a game tester," by Silvercross As one of the board's few VIPs, Silvercross deigned to let us all in on some of the behind-the-scenes jazz in the video game industry, answering questions candidly and providing insight into a world that a lot of the board's members are naturally interested in without getting too bogged down in the technical details. Always an fascinating read, Silvercross's topic really brought people together, eager to learn and sop up the info. 6. "Vladoman The Internets Greatest Hero The Comic Done In Paint," by fr0q/Ctrl-Alt-Del Link: http://gamefaps.net/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=30279287 &sid=54af4483b35d3e0f87b9ebce8f160368 There was a lot of stupid drama this year, and Vlado was often at the center of it, no more so than upon his "intervention" into the personal affairs of LokiGamer and jessanugget. fr0q, the board's best satirist, got wind of this and began applying his trademark crass artistic skills to the test. The result was a hilarious topic that even Vlado could laugh at, and like the best satire it was funny because it was only a few shades from the truth. --- This was Ed Bellis.
