32. Rikku Almighty IBOnslaught of massive hentai pics or whatever the hell he does His main may be gone, but Rikku Almighty still lives on! Rikku has a special place in Board 8's heart as the obsessive and mildly histrionic poster who normally posts a bunch of random crap pictures after a little while. He was involved in a hilarious bit with Aeon involving the spelling of the word "archipelago," among others. Like Princess Anri, Rikku just sort of does his clever little thing most of the time and normally has interesting stuff to say; in the immortal paraphrased words of Lady Miaow, "And Rikku once again succeeds in creeping me the hell out." --- This was Ed Bellis. 31. SineNomine Best mod on the board. Not like there's stiff competition, but still. I pose this question to you all: would Sine be as popular and beloved on Board 8 if he weren't a mod? (Never mind that the circumstances surrounding Sine's arrival at B8 directly related to his burgeoning modhood.) I propose that... yes, he would. Sine is one of the silliest posters around here and he's managed to make and preserve a lot of great jokes - he's indulged with us in the Jay Solano and Midgar Zolom, openly mocked Inviso for her picture topic, engaged in late-night fadding with fellow mod Zhuge Liang... the list goes on and on of Sine's great works on Board 8. His biggest "accomplishment" - apart from essentially being one of the coolest and best users on the board, of course - happens to be almost single-handedly getting the Link vs. Jay Solano match for us. Where do you think that came from? Sine, who claimed he pleaded with Ceej for hours to get him to put it up. Sine might have been labeled a heretic earlier in this year for "leaving us" for Random Insanity, but he's a Board 8er through and through, and we love him for it. | Another ten users, another awesome list! This one
takes a look back at some of Board 8's more... unsavory moments...this
past year. I call it The Top 10 Most Embarrassing Moments on Board 8!
These are the things that happened that just sort of made the board
suck a lot more, or the things that we can look back on now and shake
our heads at (at least I hope so). I can't imagine everyone agreeing
with this one, but hey, that's part of the fun of lists, right? So,
heeeere we go! 10. fakertyu: The death of a legend. Call him a joke account or just a dude with some mental problems, ertyu has been one of the most entertaining users of all time on Board 8... until this year. Whatever magic erts always had in the past was gone, replaced by some dude with the ertyu "name" who still did the same old pics and posted in the same old broken English, but just lacked that... spark. Shame too, but at least we got some good "laffs" out of it. 9. Partial usermap axes are overrated! Early in the year, when Zachnorn was on his "overrated" kick, Not Dave and Sess thought it would be funny to try and get him axed by using their leet haxx0r skillz. They failed and Zach's main survived but the whole thing was a mess, with Zach claiming "e-stalking" and Dave being a general ass and the board finding the whole thing hilarious despite the fact that, y'know, it wasa really douchey thing to do. 8. Creative alts? How disruptive! Here's a scenario: Applekidjosh and RX7 decide to post with all of their alts. Harmless enough, right? Well, apparently, even on this heavily trafficked social board (during contest season, no less!), they were bypassing flooding rules and were modded. Harshly. As in, most of their alts got banned. The moderation staff still hasn't given a good answer for that one. 7. He's down to one account - now kick him a lot! Speaking of the moderation staff, one of their low points this year was their treatment of everyone's favorite e-addict, Luster Soldier. The dude was stupid enough to vote-stuff - twice - for insignificant matches and his substantial usermap took the hit, but after the second match, the mods went public with some info and the board had a very mean-spirited chuckle at a guy most people on B8 probably never even heard of. Definitely a low point in groupthink. 6. The self-importance of being Smurf. It's one thing to think that multiple personalities with alts are amusing and/or clever (hello, Dr. Horatio Nicklebooger!). It's another thing to make generic ones that, well, don't really fool anybody and then pretend that they did. Smurf pretty much owned the market in this department this year: Internet Warbot, Viper Vixen, Criona, Larbeight, possibly some others. 5. Hopeless "addicts" lead Warcraft to victory. If there's one moment of smug self-satisfaction that I still indulge in from 2006, it's Grand Theft Auto vs. Warcraft. Don't get me wrong - I had GTA, same as most - but hearing Ulti prattle on endlessly about how hopeless "cyber-addicts" were and how they wouldn't be able to break away from their precious game for ten seconds to vote in an internet poll sure did get old reeeeal fast. It was the worst in terms of gloating probably all year, and it would have only been worse had Warcraft actually lost. Thankfully the "pathetic losers" of MMORPG fame led their franchise to victory, leaving detractors with some well-deserved egg on their collective faces. 4. The hubris of Heroic Mario. Let me say this: YOU DO NOT BET THE MOST FAMOUS ACCOUNT IN BOARD 8 HISTORY ON GANONDORF OVER SONIC. You especially do not bet it in A STACKED BET. Sir Chris's account bet with Heroic Mario wasn't epic or legendary - it was stupid, because the odds were stacked against HM from day one: if Ganon lost against Vincent as opposed to Sonic, he'd lose, which essentially meant that HM had two opportunities to lose while Chris had one. It was blatantly unfair not to mention stupid beyond all reason, but HM's pride let him get away with it. Unlike most events involving good ol' Aitch Emm, this one wasn't epic or legendary. It was... well, pretty depressing. 3. Twilight Princess fails to score perfect; remnants of Gordon Freeman-destroyed universe explode. Speaking of Heroic Mario, remember when one gaming website said that Twilight Princess wasn't a perfect game? Remember when practically every other review was calling it "perfect" and one of the greatest games of all time, while Gamespot gave it a paltry score of 8.8? Remember when gaming reviews meant a damn in the first place? (Well, I remember the first two, at least.) The board went nuts over absolutely nothing that day, over what was essentially one opinion, despite all the damn praise TP was getting at the time. Talk about selective whining. 2. It's over, eveyrone! Vlado has the high ground! SPEAKING OF "Nintendo bias," quite possibly the worst bit of user-related drama to happen in 2006 was that weird thing with LokiGamer and jessanugget that Vlado just had to intervene in. Call him a troll, call him a nice guy on AIM, call him a cab, whatever - Vlado stuck his neck where it didn't belong and made a scene and essentially dragged both participants through the mud over something that both of them likely would have liked to drop and keep, well, a little more low-key. The whole thing played out like a trashy tabloid, and Vlado's antics remain one of the lowest points of the year. ...but not the lowest! --- This was Ed Bellis. 1. WE WANT THE DAMN BRACKET. That phrase pretty much epitomizes most of what's "wrong" with Board 8. Ceej was over a month late with the spring contest he promised, but people were acting was as if they were entitled to a contest, entitled to have the over-thirty-year-old admin of the entire site get over his weird sickness and quit covering E3 and respond to their problems. Worse yet, this developed into a "funny" fad in which people thought that posting it a lot everyday would expedite the process. Ceej screwed up royally on the series contest and it was one of the worst yet in general, but let me say this: We are not entitled to contests. We get them, in all probability, because they bring in large amounts of traffic to the site and, thus, better business. Contests are hard work to create, and acting like little petulant children about it is not a good way to show gratitude and will only, in the end, decrease the odds of more contests happening. I sure wouldn't want to spend a lot of time on a project with an unappreciative audience! Thankfully the summer contest was a rousing success, so much so that Ceej now seems to really appreciate the board. Hopefully he forgot how stupid we all were for about a month. That's the list!
