28. FFDragon *insert corresponding Village People lyrics here* FFD is a good guy who normally finds himself in the midst of all manner of... antics. I'm pretty sure he was responsible for the "pork links" fad that got Steiner banned, his obsessive spamming of DEATHMATCH (Metal Gear Solid 2) got the entire practice outlawed, he lost most of his alts during said spamming, he said something wrong to MYC once and she suicided all her accounts (for, like, ninetieth time)... FFD normally just seems to end up in the wrong place in the wrong time. But this is more a humorous footnote than anything. FFD is a good chap who just seems to normally embroil himself in whatever random controversy is going on at the time. He's similar to ExTha in this regard, but unlike ExTha FFD doesn't take it nearly as seriously. He's one of those most down-to-earth users in the upper echelon of board popularity for this reason, and this year, as always, FFD was in general a great person to chill with and an all-around good guy. --- This was Ed Bellis. 27. MakeYourChance "Thanks, Bison." MYC's story this past year could essentially fill up this entire topic, and there'd still be some who'd refuse to believe it. She really is on her way to having a great success story in real life. On Board 8, MYC used her brilliant mind (but short attention span) to do a number of preposterous things: She started a CYOA based on the life of Jesus as a ninja (or something). She exchanged AIM chats (or at least pretended to) with a dude who liked to sexually roleplay as superheroes. Her insults of the jp - or any other easy targets - were some of the most laughed-at antics of the year. She's a wizard with Photoshop and even helped out with the site-wide contest, contributing pictures to Terra vs. Kerrigan and Link vs. Jay Solano, among possibly even others. (She also remains one of the only Board 8ers to be referred to by "name" by CJayC for these things.) Yet it's MYC's triumph in real life that's been her biggest success, which unfortunately the board only gets glimpses of. When Adept of Aiur made his topic pretending he was getting a sex change, it spurred into motion a commitment from MYC to reveal that she was legitimately in that boat, and while she was met with a lot of skepticism (this is MakeYourChance we're talking about, after all), it was eventually revealed to be the real deal, and MYC has slowly gone from an acerbic, sarcastic borderline-troll to a genuinely sweet person because she's learning she's got less and less to hide. She's not around as much as she used to be, but that's probably MYC is giving real life a try - and probably rocking it with the same gusto with which she rocks Board 8. 26. transience Board 8's #1 progenitor of indie cred. A lot of people look at tranny and look at how popular he is, especially among a certain "crowd" of users, and they often wonder what he "does" to "deserve" such popularity. What they see is a dude who often stays on the sidelines and says cynical things about a lot of the drama and stays out of some of the board's most fervent pursuits and arguments. What they don't see is that transience is one of the most astute people on the board and is capable of saying a lot more in few words than many can say in double. In the stats topics, tranny was so often the voice of reason this year, bringing a grounded approach to the contests - he doesn't really care about many of the entrants, so he's able to be a bit more objective in his analysis. tranny also did his own "top 100 users" list thing, which nearly everyone on the board posted in and had a great time with. Although tranny very rarely talks to people he doesn't like (which might be where those annoying cries of elitism come from), get him started and you'll find one of the wittiest and most observant people on the board. --- This was Ed Bellis.
