*-*-* The Top 50 Users of 2006 (and more!) Part 2 *-*-*

Regardless, it was the closest the Stats Topic ever came to falling apart (which seems to be a yearly occurrence) and it was at times both hilarious and painful to watch.

The LUEshi topic was pretty close.

I try not to think about a lot of the stats topic for some reason this year. It seemed... painful. More so than usual.

Yeah, there were definitely more tense moments than usual in the stats topic this year, and that's saying something.

As someone who has been on GameFAQs for almost 5 years now (lawl im so cool), DSRage is a pretty common case. A lot of disliked users are annoying for the simple fact that they are young/immature. I've seen a lot of people who just became way cooler as time went on for the simple fact that they grew older.

23. Theo72
Probably knows more about games than you do.

Remember what I said about how a lot of the posters here don't... really talk about games all that much? That's Theo's thing. When I made my "underrated user" list, had I decided to do users who were actually underrated and not just obscure, he would have been my easy pick for number one. What oli is to modern games, Theo is to classic ones; the dude is always up for some MAME or a speed run or anything fun like that. One of the coolest topics this year was something akin to "Guess the game from a blurb about it on Wikipedia." Theo owned it.

Normally one of those "sidelines" users, Theo's always been a really cool guy with a lot to offer in terms of gaming knowledge and obsession. He doesn't flaunt it, which only makes it all the more appealing. Talk to the dude once in a while. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

ALthough, as cool as Theo is, he is obscuire as you say. Maybe I'm a bit confused as to how you are ranking this user, but aren't you kinda doing it off who contributed the most to B8 this year? If so I definitely think Shine should be higher, and Theo should maybe be in the 40s or something. Nothing against Theo, I like the guy, but he is obscure.

Icey brings up a valid point, which again points to the subjectivity of this list and how difficult to define "contribution" and "good user" are. I keep referring to my initial question of "Did they make the board a better place?" and sort of go from there. I'm a firm believer that lurkers and "obscure" users can benefit the board as much as icons and popular folks, just in different ways, and as you've probably noticed I'm picking users from different areas of the board (not intentionally, though).

To a certain degree, of course, it all comes down to my own perspective of what they "did." And to me, Theo was one of the best users of the year by virtue of the things I described, which helped make the board a better place. It's not a perfect way of measuring people, of course, but what is? =)

Ed Bellis | Posted 1/3/2007 4:47:39 PM | message detail | #228
And I have already said that I don't think of "contributions" in strict terms of user projects and contests and whatnot. Somebody can contribute by doing what Theo does and posting a lot about video games, or what Draco1214 does with sensible stats analysis. There's lots of ways to be a good user.

Mumei | Posted 1/3/2007 4:49:26 PM | message detail | #230
Ah.

Well, I feel like a lot of the users that he does like are practically useless, and I couldn't care less about the projects that they've done... Some of them I feel that the board could do without.

But even if they don't do anything for me, personally, they clearly do for other people, or those projects wouldn't be near as interesting.

Of course it could do without them. It might even be better for it. But I do it for myself, not for anyone else. And there's two Monster topics. =O

And it has nothing to do with with dislike for any of those people - because I like (or have no opinion on) most of them, but there are just precious few people who I couldn't do without on this forum. If this forum boiled down to around twenty people I really liked, I'd probably like it a bit more.
