*-*-* The Top 50 Users of 2006 (and more!) Part 2 *-*-*

31. SineNomine
Best mod on the board. Not like there's stiff competition, but still.

I pose this question to you all: would Sine be as popular and beloved on Board 8 if he weren't a mod? (Never mind that the circumstances surrounding Sine's arrival at B8 directly related to his burgeoning modhood.) I propose that... yes, he would. Sine is one of the silliest posters around here and he's managed to make and preserve a lot of great jokes - he's indulged with us in the Jay Solano and Midgar Zolom, openly mocked Inviso for her picture topic, engaged in late-night fadding with fellow mod Zhuge Liang... the list goes on and on of Sine's great works on Board 8.

His biggest "accomplishment" - apart from essentially being one of the coolest and best users on the board, of course - happens to be almost single-handedly getting the Link vs. Jay Solano match for us. Where do you think that came from? Sine, who claimed he pleaded with Ceej for hours to get him to put it up. Sine might have been labeled a heretic earlier in this year for "leaving us" for Random Insanity, but he's a Board 8er through and through, and we love him for it. And rightfully so.

32. Rikku Almighty
IBOnslaught of massive hentai pics or whatever the hell he does

His main may be gone, but Rikku Almighty still lives on! Rikku has a special place in Board 8's heart as the obsessive and mildly histrionic poster who normally posts a bunch of random crap pictures after a little while. He was involved in a hilarious bit with Aeon involving the spelling of the word "archipelago," among others. Like Princess Anri, Rikku just sort of does his clever little thing most of the time and normally has interesting stuff to say; in the immortal paraphrased words of Lady Miaow, "And Rikku once again succeeds in creeping me the hell out."

33. satai_delenn
Lopen's soul mate. Yes, be very afraid.

I was worried for satai when I "revealed" in my talking-users-topic-thing that she was female - look at happens to users who get "outed" as girls around here (hey there pikaness!). But satai has remained awesome as ever. She's got the same kind of quirky interests as Lopen and Semi and is liable to go off on random bolded rants with Mega Mana and stingers. She's one of the best people to talk to about various subjects of interests; she's also put out a few top lists of the hottest male VG characters, which have always been welcome reads (Dante was #1 in both, I believe). satai's definitely underappreciated, and rather than filling the void of "female user" she is instead a good user in her own right.

34. MyWorldIsSquare
All the genius without the creepiness!

MWIS is Board 8's perpetual phoenix - he shows up for a time, makes numerous grand entrances and starts damn good projects, then something "comes up" and he departs, abandoning them... ONLY TO REAPPEAR AGAIN MONTHS LATER. It's a cycle, and we all know it's going to happen, yet we keep holding out hope that this time will be different than the last.

This year, MWIS returned to us upon Snake's victories in the 2006 character contest and he promptly began doing what he does best - being brilliant and awesome. Paradise LOST, while it may never see another chapter, was still a typical work worthy of the MWIS name; Mercenaries, while still rudimentary and slowly getting off the ground, has the potential to be one of the greatest projects the board's ever seen. Plus, MWIS has been doing all of this without all the weird, pseudo-sexual dramatic tension that always used to follow him around! Let us collectively hope that, at least this time, MWIS is, once again, here to stay for good.
meisnewbie | Posted 1/3/2007 5:17:29 PM | message detail | #252
I'm bored and I don't want to go to the last topic to look at the writeups.

35. gotspork
Board 8's cutest little catgirl.

It's a testament to how awesome sporky is that she essentially disappeared halfway through the year and still makes it high on the list. gotspork always brought a great lightheartedness to any topic; in contrast, on serious ones, like Horatio's "Board 8 Confessions," she was always willing to admit to unfavorable aspects about herself, which made for a really... "fleshed-out" user. sporky also started (but never finished, sadly) a really cool tag-team boot/immune user tournament that I tried to pick up (and never finished, sadly). We miss you, sporky!

36. Pathetique
Shadowdude II: esoteric and underrated.

There's been one "talks about the users" topic I've seen that I've been as engaged in this year as I was with my own, and that's the one with Pathetique, otherwise known as Shadowdude. It pretty much sums up everything good about S-dude: an honest (sometimes brutally so), compelling, and creative writer. S-dude engaged in the Mother****ing Donkey Kong CYOA this summer as well, modeled after Grengosaurus's the previous year; he'd also lent his talents to other projects like the short-lived Vs. Mode. A self-effacing showman to the end, Pathetique never seemed satisfied with the positive notoriety he'd accumulated, and he seems to have left for good. The board is truly a sadder place without him. =(

37. Ngamer64
Board 8's MVP.

Remember what I said about Ulti being one of the defining forces of the board? The same holds true even more so for Ngamer. Were I to go back in time and do this list for every year of Board 8's existence, Ngamer might be the only user practically guaranteed a spot on every single list. That's how much he's involved with so much stuff. This year in particular (because that's all we're really looking at), Ngamer was, as always, one of the driving forces behind some of the best stats-related projects, like the Guru Contest and the First Vote contest; his "lol x-stats" device on his site is one of the most frequently used and cited things when discussing all things stats-related. (I can't remember if it was created in 2005 or 2006, but it caught on in '06, so that's what counts!). He's always friendly and quick with rationale and logic - a very accessible user for newbs. N's just plain awesome.

38. Bokonon_Lives
HOBO BOKO SMASH

Boko is probably one of the most engaging and funny people on the board. In 2006 his biggest "accomplishment" was his awesome Best. Attack. Ever. tournament, which was incredibly well-executed and fun for a tournament of its sheer size and scope; the sequel, about to begin, promises to be notable as well. Boko also has the ability to just sort of dick around with almost anyone on the board, coming up with some pretty funny stuff in the meantime, like his aforementioned "Hobo Boko" persona for warning_crazy's Board 8 Survivor. Boko would have been right at home in 2003, yet he made 2006 even more awesome. THANKS BOKO

39. Rad Link 5
Recipient of the worst writeup I ever wrote.

RL5 is one of those users that sticks out in everybody's mind for no specific reason. He's a memorable chap with a good sense of humor who was involved in a number of fun "things" this year, from user tournaments to drama to fads and the like. He's one of the best members of that class of user who just sort of hangs out on the board and posts little witty comments and the like - they're the true "balance" of the board. Congrats, Rad!

(See? I told you I'd make up the crappy writeup to you! =P [THAT IS NOT WHY I PUT HIM ON THE LIST, BUT IT IS STILL FUNNY HO HO HO])

40. WiggumFan267
Making the board a more random place, one post at a time.

Wigs has always been one of the board's more notable comedians, and this year he had a lot to work with. Notable among his accomplishments including a hilarious essay on Gordon Freeman winning his match (which now shares AT's hallowed spot on Ulti's Freewebs page), a topic of nothing but Rugrats quotes (HALT! I AM REPTAR!), and a bunch of other funny stuff as well. Wigs isn't just random; he differs from lesser funnyists (shut up, it's totally a word) in that his silliness normally has a point to it beyond LOL THIS IS FUNNY. But, of course, even if it doesn't, it's still funny. All hail Wigs!

One more before New Year's event!

41. BIGPUN1999
Big noses > big chins, Punz0rz!!!seven

PUN is one of those users who you know is a laid-back, average joe in real life. He's one of the most easygoing (easiest-going?) people here too. PUN started off the Best Looking User contest this year (which PukeInMyPot took over), but his best moments on B8 are always when he posts stories about him and his friends dicking around - his Halloween topic for example, or another on drinking escapades. He's a good guy, and he was one of the best sources of entertainment on the board this year.

42. Draco1214
Still probably refuses to believe the universe ended.

If there's one stats guy that never gets, like, any recognition of any kind, it's Draco, always one of the most sensible and level-headed guys out there. This year especially Draco was very quick to mention his own picks and discuss the logic behind them, and while he was wrong on many a case (Phoenix/Gordon being a notable one) he still, at least, handled himself well and never talked condescendingly to people, which is something the stats crew gets a bad rap for (rightfully so much of the time as well). If you want a good, concise explanation of something, Draco's your boy.

43. BBallman7
One of the only times you'll ever see the word "3-way" mentioned simultaneously with a Board 8er.

BBall fits into that category of relative noob who wants to climb that EVER-IMPORTANT BOARD HIERARCHY LADDER, but unlike others, BBall actually worked up the rungs this year! There was never a shortage of interesting contests from BBall, despite their relative turnout; notable of these was that one contest where you'd vote against people, which was insanely popular and burned through like fifteen 500 topics. He also did three-way user battles and a bunch of other pretty cool ideas as well. Definitely an underrated user with a lot to offer.

44. Mega Mana
Board 8's best conglomeration of random pop culture references and sugar overloads.

Mega Mana is like a combination of Donovan McNabb's mom and Freakazoid - he's a sweet, good-hearted boy with a propensity for randomness and talking in bold and quoting obscure TV shows (see one of many topics where the content is essentially nothing but capitalized and bolded LOST quotes). If you're in on the jokes, they're funny; if you're not, you can still sit on the sidelines and laugh.

This year Megs tried his hand at the massive 4096-character contest, which fell through, but he was still a good presence on the board, lending hands to newcomers like satai and wavedash and being the social little butterfly he is. Mana made a lot of friends this year, and it's no surprise.
meisnewbie | Posted 1/3/2007 5:18:30 PM | message detail | #254
48. Princess Anri
The best way to kill a man: Tell Anri he doesn't like Shining Force.

Anri is like Pleinair, if Pleinair bothered to:

a. Socialize.
b. Say things other than jokes that only three (if that) people get.

Anri's got a great wit and sense of humor that lends itself well to the board. He doesn't post all that often (and indeed said he was leaving forever only to have just posted recently tonight, I believe), but when he does it's normally fun and engaging: his "best way to die" topic was hilarious, and his other endeavors are normally worthwhile. Anri's a great user to have around, and is definitely one of the most underappreciated out there.

49. wavedash101
Does this dude ever complete his own thoughts?!?

Had AKJ ever finished tabulating the results of his now-purged "Best of 2006" thing, wavey would likely have taken best new user of the year, and it's easy to see why. Once the dude got here he pretty much posted almost everywhere and made a name for himself through knowledgeable posting and general friendliness. His score in Rate the User is definitely much higher than a normal "new user"'s score, and for good reason. Who doesn't like wavedash?

(That said, the dude does engage in the most ANNOYING typing quirk to me - the habitual ending of every single thought with ellipses. We get it man, you're high, but seriously - all the time?)

50. Elite Hunter
The man formerly known as Worlddude. Or oliphaunt. Or, quite possibly, Jimmy Hoffa.

Sometimes I think there's only a handful of users on this board who actually play games, and oli's one of them. Anyone who's ever read one of this "most anticipated games" topics knows that the dude loves his video games, and even for mostly non-gamers like me, that's infectious. He also knows his stuff and plays an incredible variety of titles, from DS to 360 to PC. The dude likes his drama, but he also knows how to relax and have fun. A great way to start the list off right.

"26. transience
Board 8's #1 progenitor of indie cred.

A lot of people look at tranny and look at how popular he is, especially among a certain "crowd" of users, and they often wonder what he "does" to "deserve" such popularity. What they see is a dude who often stays on the sidelines and says cynical things about a lot of the drama and stays out of some of the board's most fervent pursuits and arguments. What they don't see is that transience is one of the most astute people on the board and is capable of saying a lot more in few words than many can say in double.

In the stats topics, tranny was so often the voice of reason this year, bringing a grounded approach to the contests - he doesn't really care about many of the entrants, so he's able to be a bit more objective in his analysis. tranny also did his own "top 100 users" list thing, which nearly everyone on the board posted in and had a great time with. Although tranny very rarely talks to people he doesn't like (which might be where those annoying cries of elitism come from), get him started and you'll find one of the wittiest and most observant people on the board"

This is me in 2004.

Except, you know, 100 times more popular.

22. Leonhart4
If Squall and Snake had a baby, it'd have a stalker while in gestation.

Leon is one of the staples of the stats topics, and not just because he posts there all the time and is one of the most notable regs. No, Leon has the reputation he does for being rational, well-informed, and articulate, even more so than most stats-heads (and that's saying a lot, given some stat-heads). Leon's got a way of explaining complicated ideas in simple ways, much like Draco1214. He's also open to other approaches - not overly bound to, say, the top 100 list like HaRRicH, or the idea of SFF like Karma Hunter often is, or by his own fanboyish whims like... somebody who shall remain nameless (TATSUMAKI OTAKUSAN KUTARAGI). I mean, his predictions can be terrible at times (I think this was the first year he predicted Sonic's path correctly), but when he's right, he's dead-on, and he's always willing to admit to a mistake.

Leon is also currently administering the NCAA Character Tournament again, this time with characters from all media as opposed to just games. As he did with its predecessor (and as swirldude and RPGuy96 did with the games tournament - worthy successors indeed), Leon runs the show well, almost always on time and good-natured about the results. Perceptive and able to cut to the heart of anyone's bullcrap yet able to joke around with the best of them... Leon's a treasure to have.
