12. RX7InfinitiIII And not just for that damn contest. RX7 primarily got noticed last year for taking over Crono801's "WHAT WOULD YOU DO?" contest and running with it. Rex's hand was a bit more... unsteady than Crono (i.e., some of his challenges weren't exactly objective), but it did result in some legendary topics, notably the Tim Allen naked picture topic, as well as one in which everyone had to summon Captain Planet. At once. However, nobody on this list gets in through one feat alone, and Rex has made himself into one of the board's best regulars. Though he's not around nearly as much of late, Rex was very involved in all manner of discussion in the anime discussion topics as well as random topics around the board. He's one of the smartest guys on the board in terms of making sharp and funny comments, even when doing the Alex Shelley/Sess-lowercase-post thing. He also made some of the funniest alts ever, primarily competing with Robazoid, although most of them are banned now (see the top ten most embarrassing moments). RX7 has done a lot for this board in the way of just... being himself, funny, snarky dude and all. --- This was Ed Bellis. Rufus Shinra 18 took a shotgun to my bracket. Congrats, Guru champ! |

* I missed that writeup and Board 8 still has an annoying purge rate. Curses. * I've never been a frequent visitor of topics on this board about "the users" in general. It's mostly people talking about people I don't know too well, and I prefer discussing things about which I have credibility. * I'm not sure what to make of the Giygas topic reference, since I remember my argument being vastly different from that. (I also recall failing to win over Lucid with my points, but that might just be Lucid. Or Internet arguments in general.) * I knew you didn't mean "overrated". I'd have to be rated first. :P * See? 11. Smurf But not for the reasons you probably think. The most "notable" user of 2006 isn't Ulti or any of the stat-heads, or FFD or ExTha or any of the "uber-popular" folks. It's not even me, despite many people saying otherwise. It's Smurf, who quite literally was practically everywhere and did practically everything - and pretty much all of it got attention. The thing about Smurf that most people come back to when they think of the things he did in 2006 is his obvious and pathetic alt trolling, which he... still continues to engage in. Or they think of the User of the Year controversy at the year's beginning. Or how he got 20 vets to post in a topic and may or may not have donated money to some animal charity. Or his poor anti-Nintendo trolling. Or any number of other obnoxious things he's admittedly done. What they don't remember is that Smurf, perhaps unknowingly, perhaps not, has done an absurd amount at bringing the Board 8 community together. Look at Rising Stream, by far the most popular fan-made game involving Board 8 members - so popular that it got its own sequel. Look at his top 500 users list, which spanned five topics and brought together all kinds of users from all throughout the site's history. Look at Smurf's other lists - underrated users, overrated users, and especially his top 50 Final Fantasy characters - that likewise brought the board together to discuss, laugh (sometimes at him), and share. Hell, look at how, unintentionally, Smurf's awful alt trolling has become one of the board's best running gags of the year, and we happily declare every unfamiliar face a "Smurf alt." Smurf really has done a lot of positive, non-drama things for the board this year, so much so that, had that other crap not existed, I'd have no problems calling him the User of the Year.
