1. Ed Bellis User of the year. I didn't want to do this. I really didn't. I'm a humble guy who's made uncomfortable by all the attention I'm normally given. But, objectively speaking, there was only one conclusion I could derive at: I am the user of the year. Let's look at the facts here: Who's been running Rate the User 3.0 for half the year, which is currently at damn near 240 users? Who talked about the users - at great length - for two whole freaking topics? Who would have won the 128 User Contest were it not for Ulti's pitiful and sad rallying attempts? Me, that's who. I hate admitting it and I feel so awkward typing this up, but I'm the User of the Year, plain and simple. Well, it's been real, guys. I hope you all had as much reading as I did writing it! I used to just troll and partake in the fad of the day. I also really
liked music discussions, but my technical knowledge is fairly meager.
That was pretty much all I did. Oh, and there were relationship help
topics - I like those. I used to suck hard at relationship type stuff,
and through years of failing and succeeding and messing all around, I
think I managed to figure it out well enough. When I see someone who is
essentially me but 10 years younger, I think it's cool to converse with
them. anyway. January '05 I hopped on a WoW forum for the realm I played on and I didn't post here for probably 8 months, except on Tuesdays. That community was insanely good. We had a solid core of people that would just chat about random stuff, and occassionally game discussions came up. Surrounding the core were plenty of other characters and decent people, and the occassional douche bag. I felt like time spent there really was like spending time with friends. The community deteriorated because people started transferring/quitting the game, and eventually it was about 3 people and I can talk to them on AIM instead of the board. Everyone else just posted whining crap or stupid elitist gaming nerd crap. I came back here, and tried to bring that community feeling back. I try to share real world stuff and observations and ask for opinions and share my own. I really like users that do the same - that's why topics like this are great. It's thoughtful, interesting, and provoking without being hostile or mean in nature. And it's got a personal level to it. I've decided to try and post a real world topic once per week if I have the time. Being a superstar at work limits my ability to post, but I do post here more on weekends than I ever thought I would. SE, I'm in a similar boat. 29, live with the girl and I'm currently ring shopping.
